Primary 4

Primary 4 enjoyed crazy hair day this week and had some fabulous and creative hair-dos!

In RE we learned more about St Andrew by fishing for some interesting facts about him. We were able to sort the true and false facts. It was lots of fun!

We have also started practising for our Christmas show and have loved learning our new songs! We can’t wait until showtime!

Catch up with P.1/2

We have been very busy the past few weeks. Here we are learning new sounds during literacy time.

We have been trying hard to use during reading and writing to help us spell and decode tricky words.

During maths time we have been learning how to organise information. We made a pictogram and a block graph then read information from both of them. We are pretty good at this!

Mrs Armour has been doing lots of music with us too. We have been playing instruments and singing at the same time. Miss Duffy thinks we will be on the stage soon!

Fun with Sound in Primary 3

Our topic this term is Scottish Inventors. We have been learning all about Alexander Graham Bell and the telephone. We have explored how sound works and tried this out by making string telephones. We had great fun!

Primary 1 update.

Have a quick look at some of the things we have been doing this week in class. Everyone has worked hard in class and on stage practicing for the Christmas Nativity.

Every week, we are improving our writing skills in class. We are trying hard to keep our writing on the line and to form the letters correctly.

Not only are we super writers but we are also super artists, adding fantastic illustrations to our stories.

We are reading our stories to our partners and then they are saying what they like about it.

We are peer assessing our writing, thinking of what makes it a great piece of writing.

This week we were delighted to get our book bags. They have three brilliant story books inside and an activity book too.

P6b Update

This week in primary 6b we have began learning about division in maths and will continue to develop our skills in the following weeks.

We have been learning about the main cities in Spain and locating where these are on a map. We did our own research into how far apart these cities are depending on which mode of transport taken.
We also did research into famous Spanish artists and learned about the life of Salvatore Dali.

We began thinking about the Pope Francis Faith Award and were issued with our lovely wrist bands.

We also made thank you cards which we will send off to all of the companies who joined us last week as part of Developing the Young Workforce week to show our appreciation.

Lastly, we said our goodbyes to Mr. Lynch who has looked after us for many years. He does so much for us all and will be missed dearly. We wish him all the best for the future and a very happy retirement.

Primary 4

Primary 4s assembly was this week and we worked hard to prepare and learn our lines and songs. We looked forward to our families coming to see us.

As part of our enterrpise this term, we baked our own shortbread to sell at our assembly. We followed a traditional Scottish recipe to bake this shortbread. It was lots of fun!

Primary 1 update.

We have been very busy as usual in P1. Here are a few photos to show what we have been doing this past week.

Symmetrical poppy printing.

Symmetrical poppy painting.

A little touch of glitter and sequins.

Look at these wonderful patterns.

We love the colours of the fireworks.

Brilliant firework artwork.

Bright colours and patterns.

Sparkly firework pictures.

For Developing the Young Workforce week, we listened to what people do every day in their jobs….

Listening to the Physiotherapist and the Optician explaining their jobs.

The Optician told us what she does to help people who need glasses.

The Optician showed us some of the special glasses she uses to help people with the eye tests.

Hoots Owls came to our school and we found out about the job of Falconry.

Everyone got to hold the owls. We were not allowed to pet them as it damages their feathers.

The Falconry job sounded very interesting and the owls were very well cared for.

We asked questions about the owls and we gathered a lot of information from Gillian who looked after the owls.

Our class bear visited Arthur’s Seat this weekend with this adventurous P1.

He also visited Balmaha and enjoyed the view of Loch Lomond.

Week beginning 11th November

Well done to the two fabulous pupils above who have been rewarded for their gifts and talents- congratulations from all of your friends at St Bart’s!

A huge thank you to all of our business partners who contributed their time and effort towards making our pupils’ Developing the Young Workforce week a huge success. Mrs McLean has worked tirelessly over the past few months to create wonderful experiences during Developing  the Young Workforce week for all of our pupils- all of this hard work is very much appreciated! Please keep your eye on twitter and class pages for up to date pictures and records of events.

Our Primary 7 pupils are paying a visit to Guidi’s in Coatbridge so that they can learn how to make pizza. Fingers crossed that they bring back some of the fruits of their labours!

On Wednesday, I will be attending a meeting in  our Headquarters for all Central area Head Teacher’s for business updates. I will also meet with some of our catering managers in the afternoon to discuss recent initiatives.

Primary 6b Update

We have had a busy few weeks in primary 6b.

Last week we celebrated All Saints’ Day on Friday by attending mass.

In our topic, we looked at where Spain is on a map in relation to the rest of Europe and also where it is in relation to us.

This week as part of Developing the Young Workforce week (DYW) we took part in lots of different activities. At the beginning of the week we thought about the skills and attributes we would need for the jobs we want to do in the future and then went on to write our own CVs.

On Thursday, we were joined by Young Inventors Scotland, where we had to think,
invent, build and present our very own inventions. This was great fun!

Finally, on Friday we attended the upper school Careers Fayre where we were joined by Fire Services, Police Scotland, a law practise and a physiotherapist but to name a few.
Also, we took part in a whole school assembly to showcase our inventions to the rest of the school from the day before and we loved every minute!

P5 are getting ready for the world of work!

Primary five have had a wonderful week learning all about the world of work! The highlight was our session with Lucy where we had a go at the young inventors challenge! We also loved the careers fayre on Friday where we got to ask lots of questions about jobs we can do in the future.
