Primary 4 update

Last week, this clever girl won a trophy for her Irish dancing- wow! We are all so proud of you.

As you can see, everyone in P4 loves to read. There is a wide variety of books for us to choose from in the class library and the school library.

Some of us chose to read books about space because we are going to be learning about the earth and space next week. Others chose to read books about food chains and food webs because we were learning about this recently.

We are continuing to work on our word processing skills in the computer suite each week.

In art, we have been using line, pattern and limited colour to design an out of this world astronaut character!

Also, working collaboratively to create a cosmic background for the astronauts! Next week, we will post the finished artworks.

Catch up with P.1/2

We have been very busy in school.

Here we are enjoying some peaceful prayer time in our Oratory. We have been learning about creation during R.E time.

P.1 are continuing to learn the initial sounds. P.2 are working hard learning trickier phonemes.

We took our P.E outside to make the most of our one day of summer! We got to choose which equipment we wanted to use. It was great fun!

During play area time you will find us exploring, drawing, painting, making and role playing. We are all good friends in P.1/2.

Primary 4 Update

We started off our week with another successful hockey lesson where we were learning to dribble – this was tricky. We worked in teams and in pairs and had some practice developing our own skills.
In RE, we have been learning about the church. After sharing our knowledge about our own church, St Bartholomew’s, we looked at the wider Catholic Church and learned all about the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis.

Throughout the week, we have been exploring how to order numbers that are tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands. We are pretty skilled at this now.
Health and Well-being is a huge part of our day. Through our Emotion Works activities we delve deeper to help understand our emotions. We built up our 6- cog model and completed some work on how the cogs link together.

Understanding more about the world around us has been part of our IDL this term. We have learned a lot about nocturnal and diurnal animals. These nighttime foxes are beautiful. We developed skills in art using pastel to create texture for the fox, then used paint and chalk to create a cold night sky.
When we were in ICT, we started working on improving our word processing skills. We will keep you up to date on how we are getting on.

At our play area, we were all very busy this week creating, designing, repairing and dismantling!

What a team! A super class who have worked hard and followed the class charter all week. Fabulous!

The Scream pr7

Primary 7 have been learning about suspense in pr 7 and as a result we thought we would look at suspenseful art. We studied the painting The Scream by Edvard Munch.
We started looking at the lines of colour and  then we decided to have a go at the painting ourself. We looked at angles, colour, perspective, 3d bridges, symbolism and of course how to draw the scary face!
We hope you like the results!

Primary 2/3

It’s been another great week in primary 2/3. This week we learned some new concepts in numeracy as the squares group looked at number words and the circles group looked at counting on and back in 1s and 10s. We also enjoyed some fun games and activities to continue developing our skills with place value.

During literacy this week we have enjoyed learning how to use adjectives within our writing. We looked around our classroom and picked some items we wanted to describe. With a partner we when then shared some adjectives to describe our objects and created a word shower from this.

We enjoyed another great session of stay and read this week as we invited in our parents and carers into our classroom to share in some reading for enjoyment with us and we look forward to welcoming them back again next week for our final stay and read session this term.

Finally, we finished off our week by putting our knowledge of adjectives into some written work as we picked some animals from the flash cards and created an interesting sentence about them including some adjectives to add some detail and description. This will be a useful skill to help with our innovation of The Gruffalo story as we change the main character of our story to a new monster.

We have been working very hard this week and look forward to sharing more of our learning next week!

Primary 4 update.

Our Monday PE session was great fun this week once again. We are learning some hockey skills and we all enjoyed a collaborative game at the end!

Everyone in our class loves reading. We are always keen to get to the library to change our books.

Sometimes we can all feel a bit overwhelmed or excited, relaxation or guided meditation is an effective way to regulate our emotions or just to have some still and quiet time.
This has been another great week for us in class. We are all working extremely hard to be the best we can be and to be mindful of our class charter.

Primary 2/3

Last week was another fun filled week of learning for primary 2/3. We started off our week with some active counting up to 100 and counting up in 2s who lost busting some moves and trying different exercises as we counted.

Next it was time for some new learning in numeracy as the squares group looked at place value with tens and units and the circles group looked at place value with hundreds, tens and units. We really enjoyed using different materials and equipment to create our numbers and display them on our place value charts.

On Thursday afternoon we entered our classroom and noticed things looked a little different! Our classroom was in darkness with strange footprints on the floor, a pair of scary orange eyes watching us from the smart board and a video and poster clue to help us find out who had been in our classroom. We were delighted to find out it was The Gruffalo!

After the excitement of the morning we enjoyed burning off some energy during our P.E lesson later that day. We demonstrated excellent teamwork as we worked together in different team games demonstrating our ball skills, throwing, passing and running.

Finally to finish off our week we enjoyed another great session if stay and read with some of our grown ups before we began creating our portraits of The Gruffalo using our pencil to lightly outline the key features of this scary creature and then dabbing on some brown paint to try and create a furry effect for the Gruffalos body.

Check in later this week to see what great work we have been doing this week!

Primary 4 update.

We have been visiting the oratory every Friday for our class prayer service. It is a lovely, quiet, prayerful space.

This week, we decided on class jobs. Everyone is involved in helping to make our class a positive learning environment.
In RE, we have been learning about the first followers of Jesus. We thought of ways in which we show that we are followers of Jesus too.
Maths has been fun this week. We are learning about numbers beyond 1000!
Often, we use the iPads to reinforce our learning and to learn new things.
Another super week.

Assembly time-pr 7

Today was our weekly assembly. Pr7 have been marvellous at helping to present this assembly. They come in looking smart in full school uniform and they sit with excellent behaviour.
Pr7 start our assembly with a prayer service. Today’s prayer service was all about courage and the children shared the story of David and Goliath. They shared how we can be brave in so many situations and showcased their own courage when speaking in front of the whole school.

After that our fabulous and new house captains, announced the house points for whole school. The winning house were delighted as they got an extra play as their reward.

Pupils of the week were read out and the children were fabulous at celebrating the success of their class mate.
Well done Pr7-keep up the great work!
