Primary 2/3

Last week was another fun filled week of learning for primary 2/3. We started off our week with some active counting up to 100 and counting up in 2s who lost busting some moves and trying different exercises as we counted.

Next it was time for some new learning in numeracy as the squares group looked at place value with tens and units and the circles group looked at place value with hundreds, tens and units. We really enjoyed using different materials and equipment to create our numbers and display them on our place value charts.

On Thursday afternoon we entered our classroom and noticed things looked a little different! Our classroom was in darkness with strange footprints on the floor, a pair of scary orange eyes watching us from the smart board and a video and poster clue to help us find out who had been in our classroom. We were delighted to find out it was The Gruffalo!

After the excitement of the morning we enjoyed burning off some energy during our P.E lesson later that day. We demonstrated excellent teamwork as we worked together in different team games demonstrating our ball skills, throwing, passing and running.

Finally to finish off our week we enjoyed another great session if stay and read with some of our grown ups before we began creating our portraits of The Gruffalo using our pencil to lightly outline the key features of this scary creature and then dabbing on some brown paint to try and create a furry effect for the Gruffalos body.

Check in later this week to see what great work we have been doing this week!

Primary 4 update.

We have been visiting the oratory every Friday for our class prayer service. It is a lovely, quiet, prayerful space.

This week, we decided on class jobs. Everyone is involved in helping to make our class a positive learning environment.
In RE, we have been learning about the first followers of Jesus. We thought of ways in which we show that we are followers of Jesus too.
Maths has been fun this week. We are learning about numbers beyond 1000!
Often, we use the iPads to reinforce our learning and to learn new things.
Another super week.

Assembly time-pr 7

Today was our weekly assembly. Pr7 have been marvellous at helping to present this assembly. They come in looking smart in full school uniform and they sit with excellent behaviour.
Pr7 start our assembly with a prayer service. Today’s prayer service was all about courage and the children shared the story of David and Goliath. They shared how we can be brave in so many situations and showcased their own courage when speaking in front of the whole school.

After that our fabulous and new house captains, announced the house points for whole school. The winning house were delighted as they got an extra play as their reward.

Pupils of the week were read out and the children were fabulous at celebrating the success of their class mate.
Well done Pr7-keep up the great work!

Primary 2/3

This past week Primary 2/3 have enjoyed lots of new learning across the curriculum. During our numeracy lessons we had lots of fun exploring some new concepts and revising some concepts learned last year. The squares group looked at ordinal numbers. We made a line together and then discussed our place in the line, recording the correct ordinal number on our boards. The circles group enjoyed some place value revision as we discussed Tens and Units. We looked at some numbers on the 100 square and discussed how they are made up. We then had fun using our bodies to resemble dienes materials and work as a group to model tens and units.

During literacy we began our first talk for writing block this week. We really enjoyed the hot seating task where we had to think of questions to ask our classmate to try and figure out the animal they were thinking of. We then brainstormed some ideas for different animals that could be in our story to display on our flip chart.

After that it was time to create our own story about an animal on a journey and our ideas were fantastic! We couldn’t wait to get our ideas onto our S map and carefully drew illustrations along our S map to create our own story. We were then able to talk to our shoulder partner and use our S map to retell our journey tale.

We finished off our week by enjoying our first stay and read session where we invited along our parents and carers to our classroom to engage in some reading for enjoyment with us.

We are looking forward to next weeks stay and read session and lots more fun learning!

Welcome to our Primary 6 class page.

This week we had a very strange and mysterious visitor arrive in our class.

We enjoyed reading a newspaper article about our visitor and hope this will help us to produce some fabulous pieces of writing over the next few weeks.

We have also been talking a lot about our school values of kindness, respect and honesty. We used our knowledge and skills to create a beautiful display within our classroom.

We can’t wait to show off our learning throughout the year!

House Captains!

Our newly appointed house captains were delighted today to receive their badges at the whole school assembly. They were so confident when collecting and reading out house points and we can see they will be brilliant leaders in our school this year.

Primary 4 news.

This past week, we have been working very hard across the curriculum. We have been reading The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark and have been exploring the text in order to develop our comprehension skills. Also, we will be using this story as a model text for our writing over the next few weeks.
Alongside this, we have been researching nocturnal creatures and have found out how they have adapted to the night.
Our owl artwork shows how we have used black paper to highlight the colour and patterns in the owls. We used oil pastel for these.

Our faith is very important to us in St Bart’s, we have been working on our class as a Circle of Friends and we are linking this to our class charter, where we are trying to work on being tolerant of each others differences.
We have been having some more explorative fun at our play area too, this week, the tinkering table was popular again!
Look at this wonderful trophy! Achieved for Irish dancing last weekend. Wow!
Everyone in P4 is looking forward to another hard working, fun week.

Welcome to P.1/2

Welcome to our class page!

We have had good fun getting to know one another this week. We came up with ideas of how our class should be and we made a class promise. We think our class will be a cheery place to be if we stick to this promise.

During R.E time we spoke about our lovely families. Our families are displayed on our altar.

P.1 have been exploring numbers to 5. Here we are making our numbers with playdough.

P.2. have been learning about ordinal numbers. Here we are using the counting bears to talk about what place they are in the line. Recording ordinal numbers has been a new concept for us!

What fun we have had!

Primary 2/3

Welcome to our Primary 2/3 class page.
We have had lots of fun settling into our new class and getting to know our new classmates. In the first few days we spent some time sharing information about ourselves and getting to know each other. We also enjoyed taking part in some fun games to explore our classroom.

We have also enjoyed some revision and new learning in numeracy this week as we explored rounding to the nearest 10. We worked independently, in pairs and small groups to use different methods and resources to help us solve our rounding problems.

Lastly, we finished off our week with some celebrations for the feast of St Bartholomew. After celebrating mass on Thursday we enjoyed some delicious ice creams and a movie this afternoon.

Keep an eye on our class page throughout the year for lots more updates and information about the learning experiences in our class. We are looking forward to a fun year ahead!
