What superstars in Primary 1/2!

Last week Pablo went home with Marysa and spent his weekend at the caravan! Marysa wrote all about it in his diary and shared it with everyone when she came back to school! SNV37921You can see from these photos that in primary 1 and in primary 2 we have been writing sentences. Some of us are just learning the skills of composing and writing a sentence whereas in primary 2 we are more confident and are beginning to stretch our sentences to make them more interesting.

SNV38008 SNV38002In our maths in primary 2 we are continuing to explore tens and units and this week looked at splitting amounts of money into tens and units.

In primary 1 maths, we are looking at jumping along a numbered track. We have used a lot of different resources to learn and practice our skills.

When we were in the computer room this week we were exploring autumn  using some interesting videos and activities on the Espresso web site.

Finally, we are very proud of these two wonderful girls from Primary 1/2 who have won medals at their own dancing competitions.

Is there room on the broom for Primary 2?

Today we read ‘Room on the Broom’ by Julia Donaldson to get us in the mood for Halloween. We really enjoyed the story and our favourite part was when the witch used a spell to make herself a ‘truly magnificent’ broomstick! We had a go at designing our own broomsticks, some were covered in chocolate and others came with a  couch attached, they all looked fantastic! After that we got to use art straws to make ourselves a magic wand just like the one the witch had in the story. We had a brilliant afternoon!

Maths-tastic!

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming some very important people into P4. We were joined by Mr Johnstone and Ms Robertson from the Scottish Government and Mr Craig and Ms Fisher from North Lanarkshire Council. Here is some of the maths learning that we shared with them…

Here are some other maths stations we’ve been working on recently to consolidate our learning…

We’ve done so well and now it’s time to move on to our next maths concept – multiplication! Great work P4!

Learning about skills in the world of work-pr7

Children had great fun today learning all about different occupations, skills needed for careers and Interview techniques.

The class were split into four groups of five and were given the chance to work at four different stations around the room.

The stations were occupation pictionary at the smart board, occupation charades in the library, unusual job research with the iPads and Interviews round a table.

Children learned all about the different skills needed for all the jobs. They were gaining experience of how to act at an interview while also learning about the variety of careers that are out there. Phew! A lot of learning and lots to think about.

At our plenary when asked “Name something from today that you will use in the outside world?”  The children replied, “All of it!”      image image image image image image image image image image image image

Our morning was made complete with very special visitors from the Scottish Government. Mr Johnstone and Mrs Robertson who were joined by Mr Craig and Mrs Fisher. They really enjoyed finding all about our work.

P1’s Wonderful Work!

In primary 1 we are so enthusiastic about out learning and this week has been no different! Our primary 7 buddies came to visit us and we shared the wonderful stories we have written with them. They helped us set targets for this term to make our writing even better!

During R.E we have been learning about God’s beautiful creation. We decided to go on an Autumn walk and take pictures of some things God created including trees, the sky and some plants. We even collected some crunchy leaves that had fallen from the trees to make some hedgehogs and squirrels because we have learned that God made animals too.

Keep checking our blog to see our finished hedgehogs and squirrels!

To top off our busy and exciting week two of the girls brought in items for show and tell and we had a song from one of the boys!

Primary 2’s Autumn Animals

This week in Primary 2 we have been learning all about autumn. We read an autumn story and talked about all of the different things that happen when the seasons change. We learned some facts about hedgehogs and then we got to make one of our own! We have all painted our hedgehog and next week we will stick leaves on to decorate them. We really love to paint in Primary 2!

Spooky Symmetry!

Halloween has arrived early in primary 7 with our spooky symmetry  pictures!  Children drew half of a spooky image on a line of symmetry and then asked their shoulder partner to complete it with the help of a mirror.  Children really enjoyed seeing the finished spooky images.

Our next steps are symmetrical patterns across a symmetry axis! Scary!

Back with a Bang!

We have started our new term with lots of enthusiasm in P4 and we have worked hard this week.

In R.E, we learned all about Our Lady and we know that we should show devotion to Mary, especially during the month of October. We did this by saying the Rosary together in class and reflecting on her life. Next, we learned about the fascinating story of Mary and the Miraculous Medal. We have started to create our own Miraculous Medals to show our devotion to Mary. Watch our Blog for pictures!

We also learned how to write interesting story openings this week. Here we are sharing our exciting openings with our partners…

And of course, a new term means a new topic! Ours is ‘Space!’ We really impressed Mrs McLean with the facts we already knew about Space but there’s so much more that we want to find out.

First up this week, we learned about night and day and why it happens. It’s all to do with the Sun and the Earth! The Sun is really a giant star and it’s very, very hot! We discussed ‘hot colours’ and what the Sun might look like if it was possible to get up close to it (it’s not so don’t try it at home!). We made our own red hot Suns using paint and cling film. Messy but great fun.
