Over the past few weeks we have been super busy! We did some drama and had to use our facial expressions and bOkies to show how we would be feeling carrying a large and heavy sack of potatoes!!! We got really into it.
During maths time we have been exploring money. We replaced our numbers with coins and notes on our washing line. We have been counting in 1p’s and buying things from Miss Duffy’s shop!
The rights respecting schools pupil voice group asked us to complete a task sorting items into things we need and things we want. Some were easy to sort and some caused a bit of discussion.
Things we need included clean water, medicine and clothes. Things we want included toys, crisps and coloured pens.

We were thrilled to come into our classroom this morning to find a beautiful splash of colour on our back walls! Our fantastic fireworks we painted last week are now on display and we are proud to show them off.
We also received lots of compliments for our poppies we painted yesterday in honour of Remembrance Day today.
After the painting was complete and dry, we cut round our poppies and attached a green straw for the stem.
We found out lots of facts about Remembrance Day and used our knowledge to write some fabulous explanations. We are learning to use subheadings in our explanation writing.

Last week we wrote some fantastic explanations on how the trees change throughout the different seasons.
Today we went to the ICT room to type up some of our findings. We each chose a different season and used Splosh to type and illustrate information on our chosen season.
Here are a few of the amazing finished products!

In Primary 2 we have been learning all about our rights. This week we talked about the difference between the things that we want and the things that we need. Miss Connor gave us all a pink card with the word want on it and a blue card with the word need on it. Then we took turns at going into the middle of the circle and picking up a card with a picture on it. The pictures were of things like clothes and computers and we had to vote for whether we wanted or needed them. The person in the middle was in charge of putting the picture on the want or need poster. We were very good at doing this so Miss Connor sent us back to our seats and put different pictures up on the smartboard. We got to vote again but this time we had to give a reason for our choice. It was loads of fun and Miss Connor was really impressed with all of our sensible answers.

This week in maths we have been learning how to tell the time. We looked at digital and analogue clocks and enjoyed playing Stop The Clock to reinforce our learning. We are currently learning quarter to and quarter past.
We have been practising our tennis skills in gym. We worked on our own and with a partner using the tennis balls and rackets.
Yesterday we had fun using different coloured paints to create our own firework pictures. Mrs Maclean is looking forward to turning them into a beautiful display in our classroom. Stay tuned for a picture of the finished display!
Finally, we had a very important task to complete for our Rights Respecting School pupil voice group. We chose cards out of the basket and had to decide whether each item was a ‘want’ or a ‘need’. Some of them were tricky to place and needed some thought and debate.

Next week we are having a Cake Sale in aid of Mary’s Meals. Please hand in donations of cakes and biscuits for us to sell.
Everyone always enjoys art. What do you think……?
In number work in primary1, we are learning all about money. Here we are counting 1p coins and £1 coins. We are learning all about money through the story called, The Great Pet Sale!

We analysed the results of our Sun Clock experiments by observing how much the shadow had moved across the plate. Some of our Sun Clocks showed that the shadow moved the exact same distance every hour, just like the hands of a clock! We concluded that it is possible to tell the time by observing the Sun’s movement across the sky.
We’re finished with the Sun for now as we explore another source of light in our sky – the Moon. We’ve been learning that the Moon is a satellite of the Earth, which means it orbits the Earth. Some of us used to think that the Moon was made of cheese! We know of course, that it’s made from rocks and is covered in craters, or big holes, caused by meteors. We also learned today why the Moon changes shape. We know that there are 8 Moon phases and we learned their names today. To help us remember all of our learning about the Moon, we made puffy Moons using shaving foam, glue, paint and lots of dirty hands…
When our Moon phases dry we’ll label them with their correct names. They’ve turned out well so far..!
