In Primary Seven we have been really enjoying learning about Britain during the 1960s. The children took a particular interest in learning about the two groups called the mods and the rockers. We have looked closely at their different fashions and their different music tastes. Every day we have been listening to a different genre of music and we really enjoyed learning about The Who, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Elvis and many more.
We have loved looking at the mods fashion of suits and parka jackets and the rockers fashion of leathers. We were amazed how no-one wore a bikers helmet in those days yet they went around on motorbikes and vespa scooters.
We were really intrigued to learn about the clashes between these two gangs and how they came together to fight in 1964 at seaside towns along the coast of England.
We decided to write about these events and this week we wrote fantastic recounts of the clashes between the mods and rockers. We used language straight from the sixties like “rumble” and “youths” . We explained how the press created panic with these stories and how the fighting suddenly stopped between the gangs just as quickly as it started. We can not wait to share these recounts with our parents at the next parents night.
