This past week we have enjoyed lots of different number activities as we celebrated Maths week Scotland. We started off our week looking at comparing numbers. Our squares grouped worked with numbers up to 100 and our circles worked with numbers beyond 100. We began by choosing our own number and writing it on our whiteboards. We then had to organise ourselves into a line from the smallest to largest number. We worked well looking at each others number and talking about the digits we could see.
Later in the week we took our learning outside. Firstly we had a wonderful morning exploring our school grounds where we collected some lovely autumn leaves. We then used them to take part in some fun maths activities for maths week.
We were carefully counting our leaves & writing the number of leaves we found beside them. Then with our partners we discussed who had the most or least amount of leaves. Next we used our leaves to help with some number formation, challenging ourselves to make different numbers with our leaves.
Then we looked at different patterns we could make with our leaves thinking about shape, size and colour before having some fun creating some nice pictures with our leaves. We also really enjoyed working with P1/2 for our outdoor maths activities and we are looking forward to doing more activities like this together this year.
We also had great fun working on our rhythms and beats in our music lesson this week. We used our body parts to help us create different sounds (foot stomp, clap, click and knee tap). We carefully followed a sequence of beats using these different sounds to follow the rhythm of the music.
Lastly on Thursday we were able to enjoy some prayer and reflection time in our oratory. As a class we spent some time praying for our loved ones and people in need across the world. We then listening to a 3 minute retreat reflecting on the gospel reading as we offered up our love and prayers to God.
