Bridges for… shoes?!?

This week in class, we’ve been looking at the properties of shapes. We’ve explored round shapes, smooth shapes, shapes that are pointy and shapes that are flat.

Mr Fowler set us two challenges this week. First, we had a competition to see who could build the highest tower. We discovered that smooth shapes were the easiest shapes to build towers with. Round and pointy shapes are very hard to balance on, but they can make your creation look nice. Anyway, the winning tower was over 40 cm high!

Secondly, Mr Fowler challenged us to build a bridge that was so strong that it could support our shoes. We had to build two solid supports for our bridge, then build a supporting beam for our shoes that was over 30 cm long. Again, we found that flat shapes or shapes with smooth faces were the best to build with.

We can’t wait to find out more about shapes!
