We’re currently learning about addition in maths. To help us learn more about this idea, we’ve been playing two games. One game is called ‘Throw To Win’, the other is called ‘Addition Flowers’.
In ‘Throw To Win’, each group has twenty items (like beanbags or rubber rings) to try and throw inside of two hula hoops. Once all the items have been thrown, each group has to count up how many items have actually landed inside each hoop. Once we’ve counted the totals for each hoop, we create an addition sum to show how many successful throws we had altogether.
‘Addition Flowers’ is a great game to play with a partner. Each pair gets a dice and two coloured pens. You roll the dice and draw the correct number of petals around the flower with your colour of pen. Then it’s the turn of your partner. After you’ve both rolled the dice and drew your petals, it’s time to draw an addition sum to show how many petals your flower has.
One thing is for sure, we always have plenty of fun in P.2!
