Our work continues on the Scottish Wars of Independence. Over the past couple of weeks, we have been learning about William Wallace and his crucial role in the Wars of Independence.

We have been exploring historical evidence about Wallace and we found out that, even though the Scots thought Wallace a National hero, the English at that time did not feel the same way. In fact, he was considered to be an outlaw and villain! To explore this further, in pairs, we evaluated some facts about Wallace and decided whether the evidence suggested that he was a hero or an outlaw. We had to work hard to make sure that our answers were balanced and not biased…

 

We then had to share our decisions with the rest of our group and reach a consensus (this is when everyone agrees with the decision) about Wallace…

 

 

Finally, we shared our group decisions with the class and again, had to reach a consensus. After adding our balanced decisions to our class ‘hero-o-meter’ we decided that Wallace did more heroic things that villainous things. It was hard not be biased but we think we did a great job!
