Primary seven have been learning all about Sir Nicholas Winton who sadly died last year at the age of 106. Sir Nicolas Winton was responsible for rescuing 669 Children from the clutches of Hitler during World War 2. The children were amazed to hear about this wonderful humble man and how he made his mission to evacuate children into Britain from Prague and Czechoslovakia.

The feeling in our classroom today was one of deep admiration for this hero and deep sorrow for those parents who never survived to see their children again. We all had a tear in our eye when we heard how Nicholas was reunited with his rescued children in 1988 on the TV show “That’s life”

Tonight the children are asked to further research this amazing story and also that of Schindler, another war hero.

It is believed that there are over 6000 people alive today because of Nicholas Winton, wow! After a lot of reflection we decided that nothing is impossible and who knows how each one of us can help others in this modern day world. What an inspiration!
