Primary 4 update

Last week, we had our fabulous Christmas show!
Everyone took part and everyone did an amazing job.

Look at these superstars!

We also looked at some angel art as part of our RE, where God sent a messenger to Mary, to tell her she was going to be the Mother of God.

Then we created our own angel art.

Primary 4 update.

Primary 4 have had a busy time!
Last week, we had our class assembly. Everyone had a chance to contribute to the assembly which was based on our IDL theme of Rainforests. We had learned so much about the rainforests of the world that we were excited to share our new knowledge with our family and friends.

Even though the technology let us down…..we were still amazing!
After the assembly, our families and relatives were invited to our class where we had prepared refreshmentsand we showed them around our Rainforest wall display and explained what we had been learning about.

We think our art work is really super and we learned so much about the rainforest and the importance of the rainforest to our environment.

P5 Hot Seating

As part of our novel study on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, we carried out some ‘hot seating’ today. We had fun pretending to be the different characters from the book, then interviewing the characters to find out their views on events from the story.

We also enjoyed practising our French numbers to 20 today on our lovely new Smartboard! We can’t wait to explore all the cool features it has to offer.

P5 Update

We had great fun with Miss Walker from St. Ambrose High School this week as she visited us to deliver more science lessons. We did a really cool experiment on chemical reactions using water and vitamin C tablets. It was rather explosive!

We also had fabulous fun yesterday on our final day of our class topic on France. We had the chance to taste some different French foods and treats.

At the end of our lesson we carried out a survey to identify the most popular and least popular foods.

P.1/2

We have been very busy and working very hard as you can imagine!

Mrs Carlin found a bird nest in her garden and brought it in for us to have a look at. We couldn’t believe a little bird had made such an amazing thing! We could even see a bit of the shell and some fluff from the baby birds. It was so interesting!

We then read a book called Lazy Ozzie as part of our Scottish Book Week activities. It was about an owl who couldn’t be bothered learning how to fly! This made us want to learn about other birds. We had a look at some Scottish birds and had a class vote on which bird we’d like to learn more about. The golden eagle was the winner! We will keep you up to date with our learning on this amazing bird!

Donations for the food bank filled our classroom and we felt very proud of ourselves for organising this collection to help our local community. We each carried a bag of food down to the local food bank and Pastor Stuart was blown away by the amount we had collected!

Miss Duffy is so lucky to have such fabulous, kind and hard working children in her class!

Primary 2/3

This week in primary 2/3 we were joined by a special visitor. Mrs Akram came in to speak with us and P1/2 about her Muslim faith as part of our ‘Other world religions’ learning. We found out about the use of prayer mats, prayer beads and the special dress that men and woman wear during prayer time.

We were also lucky enough to have some special Henna designs drawn onto our hands. We learned that Henna is applied to the hands of Muslims during the special celebration of Eid which takes place twice a year.

With our Christmas Fayre fast approaching on Saturday we had to work hard to prepare our Reindeer hot chocolate cones. We were able to work excellently in our pairs to pour in scoops of the hot chocolate powder and then sprinkle on some tasty marshmallows.

Once the cones were created we added the finishing touches by sticking on two googly eyes, a red nose and some antler ears. We were delighted with the finished products and we hope people will enjoy them on Saturday.

This week was also Scottish book week and we have enjoyed reading the book ‘There’s nothing faster than a Cheetah’ by Tom Nicoll. There were lots of different animals trying their best to beat the Cheetah and we really enjoyed drawing our own funny mode of transport for our animal to try and win the race! We also welcomed our grown ups from home to come and enjoy a ‘stay and read’ session with us this week and it was great to have so many of you joining us to celebrate reading during Scottish book week.

Lastly, we finished off our week by donating all of the items we had collected to our local Foodbank. We were so excited to pack up all of the fantastic donations with P1/2 before we set off on our walk to meet Pastor Stuart at the Foodbank. Pastor Stuart was delighted with the amount of donations we were able to deliver and we are so happy that we could help others.

Primary 2/3

It’s been a busy week in P2/3!

We took part in lots of fun activities during numeracy time to help us with subtraction. The squares groups used the counting bears to help them with their subtraction sums and the circles group used cubes to help them with their subtraction sums using larger amounts.

Later in the week we also had some subtraction stations set up with different interactive games to challenge our subtraction skills further.

On Monday 11th of November we started off our week learning about the importance of Remembrance day and we showed our respect for all those who have died by taking part in a 2 minute silence in class.

During our emotion works lessons we have been learning about the emotion ‘angry’. This week we explored some regulation strategies that people can use when they are feeling angry. We enjoyed using the fidget toy, drawing a picture of something that makes us happy and writing some positive affirmations. We are confident that we can use some of these strategies when we are feeling angry.

Towards the end of the week we enjoyed catching up with our buddies and visiting the library for some new accelerated reader books as lots of us had a new ZPD level and we were able to choose books at a new level. We love spending time with our buddies and reading with them each week.

Lastly on Friday afternoon we were delighted to perform our class assembly for our parents and carers who were able to come along to watch. We have been learning lots about helping our environment and local community and we were able to share lots of facts and information reading our lines loudly and clearly for everyone to hear. The audience loved our 2 songs about how we can help to save the planet and we hope everyone will try their best to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

Primary 4 update

Another busy week in P4.
We have been spending time reading a fabulous book by Philip Pullman called The Firework Maker’s Daughter and we have been exploring the theme of emotions.
We worked as a team to explore this.

As the Mini Vinnies, we meet regularly and talk about what we can see around us in our community and the wider world. We pray for guidance and act so that we can help others. This week, we spoke at the whole school assembly to inform others about the work of Aid to the Church in Need. Next Wednesday, we are having Red Wednesday, where we will all wear something red and highlight the work of ACN. We will also have a cake sale to raise money for ACN.

At the learning zone outrode our class, we were exploring some of the areas ….. we made a moving truck and some of us were very busy in the tinkering zone where we were working out how a laptop is constructed as we deconstructed it. This is so interesting.
Thank you to everyone who helped with the food bank collection, primary 4 had a lot of food to send off to Miss Duffy and Miss Allington, who’s children will deliver the food.

Another fab achievement for this girl at her Irish dancing .

Primary 5 Research

As part of our topic on France we have been learning about famous French landmarks. We worked together using the iPads to do some research on the Eiffel Tower and managed to find out lots of fun and interesting facts.

We used this information to create our own fabulous fact files on the Eiffel Tower.

We were lucky enough to have our sports leaders back in today, helping us to develop our Zone ball skills. We focused on teamwork today, making sure that everyone was involved and had a role to play. 15 members of our class will be selected to take part in a friendly competition at St. Ambrose High School next Friday. This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase all the skills we have learned over the past 3 weeks.

Primary 4 update

We had a great start to our week with these two superstars bringing in their trophies to show us! What an achievement!

These children from P6 came down to read us their Hallowe’en poems. We were thrilled because we have been writing Hallowe’en poems too! We also loved their lamps.

These P5 children also came down to read us their spooky poems! What a clever bunch !
At the end of the week, we had also completed our Hallowe’en Fear poems and we thought they were brilliant. We went to all of the classes in the school to read them our poems. It was a great experience and everyone was very welcoming to us.
Everyone had a great Hallowe’en week!

On Friday, we were commissioned as Mini Vinnies at All Saints Day mass with Father O’Kane. It was a very special day for us. We will have our first Mini Vinnies meeting on Monday and discuss what our first project will be.
Look out for more news and updates next week.
