Pastoral Care

In the RE department at St Andrews, we believe pastoral care is rooted in the practical application of Gospel values. In the “This Is Our Faith” curriculum document the role of a catholic RE department is described in this way

“Catholic schools aim to help all students to develop their fullest potential, preparing them for life, informing their minds and forming their characters so that they can contribute with others, and above all with God, to the transformation of their world.”

As such the role of the RE department goes beyond the classroom and manifests its self in the provision of opportunities for pupils to engage themselves with charities and to develop their faith through religious services. These opportunities include:

  • Fundraising for SCIAF
  • Fundraising for St Andrews Hospice
  • Fundraising for the Coatbridge Food-bank
  • Fundraising for the Malawi project
  • Year group and staff retreats
  • Liturgical events
  • Class masses
  • Prayer services
  • Confessions
  • Daily recital of prayers
  • Informal spiritual and pastoral direction and care of pupils and staff

The pastoral work done in the RE department is vastly supported by our Pastoral Planning Team who meet and plan new opportunities for our pupils to develop their faith.
