Primary 2 have been enjoying all the fundraising days at St Aloysius. On Friday the 20th February it was pyjama day. This fell on the day of the solar eclipse and as we were plunged into darkness and we all had our pyjamas on Guess what happened?
When we eventually woke up we found out all about the solar eclipse.

Today the class had a great discussion about their favourite website. There were many suggestions but Studyladder was the most popular for a variety of reasons:
You can play lots of different games to gain rewards. Ciara
Rewards are converted into points. Theo
The points can be used to buy outfits for your avatar or furnish your avatar’s room . Kerys
You get certificates for good work. I have a silver and a bronze certificate. Ali
It is easy to play at home on an iPad or computer. Sophie B.
It helps with learning. I can practise my 2 and 10 times table. Anton
The class are able to play a variety of games which are set by the class teacher in pods. Our class has a grammar, health and wellbeing, maths and literacy pod with lots of activities in each.

The children in Primary 2 are a very co-operative bunch supporting and helping each other in all areas of the curriculum using a variety of strategies and tools. They are keen photographers and had great fun taking pictures of shapes outdoors when learning about 2D and 3D shape.
In class, Primary 2 work together to solve problems, discover through science experiments and learn new sounds with partners. They love to compete in P.E. games which demand full team commitment.

Primary 2 have been very busy finding out all about Fair trade, in particular the cocoa producers. They know the journey of the cocoa bean to chocolate bar, and have discovered many uses of cocoa. Using oil pastels they produced great paintings of a cross section of a cocoa pod.
They are learning all about the fair-trade mark and were very excited about their visit to the local Co-operative supermarket, to find as many products as possible that are fairtrade.

Primary 2 were discussing what they thought a blog was. They had some great ideas and shared them in class.
“A place where other people can see what you have been doing in class”
“Somewhere to put facts and information”
“A place where others can learn about different things”
“A place to put pictures”
“Somewhere to play games”
“You can post to the blog”

Remember if you can’t reduce or reuse always recycle!
During the second week Primary 2 tried very hard to reduce their waste by using reusable water bottles, bringing healthy snacks without wrappers, such as bananas or apples. They used both sides of paper when drawing etc. They made quite a difference. When we counted the waste in week 2 it had been reduced in all areas.

Primary 2 have been very busy with the class eco topic on waste minimisation. The class had their own recycling unit and counted how much plastic, paper, foil and cartons that were used in a week. We counted the amount in each box using tally marks and put the results in a bar graph. We were shocked and decided to try and reduce our class waste the following week.
