Primary 2 

Reading

  • Read your book every night and remember to bring your book into school every day.
  • Write down 3 facts you have learned about the subject of your book.

Spelling – adding ‘ing’ to words

  • Watch this video and explore adding ‘ing’ to words

Maths – division & subtraction

  • Share it – give your child 10 grapes (peas, oranges section whichever they like) and ask them to share it between 2 (yourself and them), ask if it is fair – do you have the same? Repeat with different amount of fruit again for 2 people, repeat in with different number ensuring that there or no remainders.
  • Subtraction – write down 5 subtraction sums that equal 14.
  • Activelearn – continue to work your way through the games on activelearn.

Recycling craft – As it was Earth Day on Sunday the 22nd of April, this week’s task is focusing on recycling.  Make a recycled craft using materials you may be getting rid of or throwing away.  You can make anything you want as long as you are using used materials.  Bring in your ‘recycled craft’ to show to the class.

  • Read your book every night and remember to bring your book into school every day.
  • Make up your own fact book using facts you have learned from your reading book.

Spelling – adding ‘ing’ to words

  • Complete adding ‘ing’ to words handout given on 24.04

Maths – fractions and multiplication

  • 12 peas Ask children to draw 4 large circles which represent 4 plates. On each plate they should draw 12 peas, grouped into equal groups, making each plate different. Children could be encouraged to work practically, using any items they have at home, e.g. coins, sweets, grapes, to represent the peas.
  • How many? Ask children to collect between 10 and 30 small items at home to sort into equal groups. For each size of group, encourage your child to discuss the total number of items (e.g. 22), the group size (e.g. 3, 4, 5 or 6), the number of groups that can be made and the number left over, e.g. ‘22 is 7 groups of 3 with 1 left over’.
  • Continue to practise times tables.
  • Activelearn – continue to work your way through the games on activelearn.
