P7/6 Science Investigation – Chemical Reactions

P7/6 carried out a science investigation to see if they could propell a film container into the air to simulate a rocket launch.  After much discussion they used a film canister, Vitamin C tablet and 3 different liquids – water, vinegar and a fizzy drink (this was the variable they changed each time). Each child made a hypothesis and predicted what they thought would happen. They worked in small groups and each had a role to play.  They had great fun with this experiment and were very responsible, thinking of the health and safety aspects of it.  Results were videoed on the i-Pad and children talked about their findings and recorded them in the form of graphs. As a class our results showed that the fizzy drink produced the biggest explosion. We found that the more acidic the substance the greater the chemical reaction.  Next stop NASA!!!
