As part of their WWII topic Primary 6 and 7 created Blitz pictures which they were very proud of.  The P7 children also wrote about it in their e-profile.  Here is Hayley’s ‘blog’.

In my class we started our new topic ~ WWII. Mrs. Muir told us all  about the Clyde Bank Blitz and the ones in London. For art we made a collage. It started with creating a wash for the background of the sky using  yellow, red and orange water colour paints. We lightly brushed yellow paint on the bottom portion of the paper and then we moved onto the orange, making both colours mix together. At the top we painted it red. Next we took a long piece of black paper and with our pencils we made a simple silhouette of a skyline. With the piece we cut out, we stuck it to the bottom of the paper we made a wash on. We saved the excess piece of paper that we got from the skyline. Next we used the same technique to make a skyline but this time it was on beige paper. We did the same and cut it out and with the excess piece of paper we gave it to our partners so they could use it. The next step was to cut out the beige paper skyline and put glue on the bottom of it. We had to slot it behind the first piece of black paper. The excess from the cutting of the black paper was put up a certain way to make it look like another skyline. This was slotted behind the beige paper and now we had a bigger skyline that had contrasts of beige and black. We used yellow tissue paper to create searchlights by folding it into a cone shape which we then stuck onto the skyline. Now we used some black paper to cut out a plane that acted like a Luftwaffe. We also could cut out some bombs for them to drop. When we finished our pictures were mounted on black paper and this made them look more effective. I enjoyed doing this piece of work because not only did we learn how to make a collage and a wash we learned about the Blitz.
