Primary 6 and 7 pupils rose to the challenge when they attended Robinwood Outdoor Centre for 3 days in the chilly month of January. When they reached Alston in Cumbria they were faced with a two and a half mile Moorland Walk to reach the centre itself – no mean feat when we had to deal with wind, rain, hail, snow and sunshine!!! There followed 3 days of activities from Dragon Quest problem solving to Zipwire, Archery to the Piranha Pool! Children were encouraged to take part in all activities – as were staff!! Noone was forced to participate but instead each child was helped to challenge themselves and take one more step, or climb one foot higher so as to achieve their personal challenge. All children ate well in the dining room storing up energy for the next task! Meals were enjoyed by all! All children were very well behaved and Robinwood staff were very complimentary about their attitude to tasks, politeness and behaviour – well done everyone!! Night staff were very impressed by their cooperation and ability to settle to sleep quickly – no names appeared in ‘the book’!! When we left dorms were spotless – especially the boys’ rooms! We returned home tired but exhilarated, glad to see our family and sleep in our own beds! All the children expressed the opinion that a chance to go to Robinwood should never be missed!!
