Last Day of School!

Well done boys and girls you have completed Primary 4. When you return to school in August you will be in Primary 5. We are about to start our Summer holidays but don’t forget you keep learning in lots of ways.

Task 1

Some people came late to the Teams area – so please take the time to look through and complete tasks you missed. Most of the tasks set in Teams relate to numeracy and literacy. The concepts in each task are all work we covered in class so it is a good opportunity for you to apply your knowledge.

Task 2

I posted lots of different activities on Glow you will not have had a chance to complete them all. Have a scroll through and choose some to do or even redo if you enjoyed them.

Task 3 – Be kind to yourself and others

Take time to do some physical exercise everyday. I have put on some examples from different websites and YouTube links yesterday on Glow. If you get anxious or worried about anything speak to an adult. Look back on Glow to our mental health week video clips and activities. Remember my Captain Tom Challenge – 100 Acts of kindness..keep it up why stop at 100!

Look at the post below for a really big Summer Challenge

Summer Reading Challenge

This Summer we might not be travelling far from home but when we read we can travel anywhere! A book can take you far into the past or take you to the future. Books can carry us across mountains, into the deepest forests or under the oceans. If we have a good book we are not alone. We can hear the voices of the characters and be with them on their adventures.

The Summer Reading Challenge has arrived in Scotland!

The Big Friendly Read, Tesco Bank Summer Reading Challenge Scotland officially launched in Scottish libraries on Saturday 25 June!

If you’re in Scotland you can now sign up to take part in the Challenge – just visit your local library to get started! Borrow and read any six books from the library over the summer to collect limited edition rewards and a very special prize for completing the Challenge.

Create a profile on this website to keep track of the books you’re reading, write reviews, share what you’ve been up to at the library and chat to other book fans

We’ll be announcing some Dahl-ightful news, competitions and phizz-whizzing fun all summer, so stay tuned!

Click on the link below to get access to the challenge and books!

Make a Time Capsule

Time Capsule

Make a time capsule with that tells your story of Covid-19 lockdown.

The 2020 Covid-19 pandemic will go down in the history books, but a time capsule will teach future generations all about what lockdown was really like.

As well as being a great craft to keep busy, creating a COVID-19 time capsule will be a great way for you, or others to remember this historic time in years to come.

As much as everyone keeps saying it, these really are unprecedented times that no one alive today has ever experienced before. In the future, children in schools will be learning about social distancing, lockdown and the coronavirus in their history classes. So why not make a piece of history with your family by creating a Covid-19 time capsule?

What is a Time Capsule?

Time capsules are containers of some kind which hold a selection of objects, picked because they have a special meaning in the time that we’re living in.

For example, time capsules have been found from as early as 1874 in the UK with photographs and letters, describing daily events happening that year. Often time capsules are buried underground, beneath floorboards or stone slabs. In 2015 one was buried under the Millennium Dome in London to be opened in 2050.

With the coronavirus pandemic, we are all living through an important moment in history. Many people want to help future generations learn about this time using time capsules, full of things that show what life under lockdown was like.

COVID 19 time capsules are an easy project to get involved with, plus they’re totally unique to every person. Down load my worksheet with tips of how to make one.

Reminder – Music – Opera Performance

Don’t forget to tune in and enjoy!

Join us on Monday 22 June at 2pm (BST) for a special, live performance of the full show streamed right to your home via YouTube – so make sure to bring your best singing voices, limber up for some excellent dance moves, and join in!

Psst…! Bring along any questions, comments or shout-outs, and we might just be able to give you a special mention…

Fancy a starring role? After the live stream, we’ll put together a new version on our YouTube channel – and we’d love you to be part of it! Just send in your 30-60 second video clips or photographs of you performing along with the live stream, and we will put as many as we can together in one mega performance of Fever! Online.

Top filming tips:

  • Please keep video clips to 30-60 seconds in length
  • Use landscape video format
  • Try to get the young performer in the middle of the picture, with as much natural light as possible
  • Avoid filming with a window directly behind them, as this will make the video darker
  • Use two hands to hold the phone/camera, or even better, place it on a sturdy surface
  • And most importantly…enjoy!

Send us your photos/videos by 5pm, Wednesday 24 June:

Submit this Google Form (please note you will need a Google account), or

Email this form along with your photos/videos to feedback@scottishopera.org.uk

Last Week Reflection

Primary 4 we are in our final week! This term has been a strange one but definitely one I will remember. We have had one of the sunniest Spring term I can remember. We haven’t been able to come together in school but we have been able to continue to learn just in a different way. Working from home has brought challenges and rewards for us all.

  1. I want you to think about what you enjoyed about this term and what you didn’t like so much. Write down your thoughts on the worksheet below.                                                                                                                                                      Task 1 22nd June
  2. Now think about the different tasks posted here on Glow and on Teams. Which have you really enjoyed? Which were challenging? Finally which would you like to avoid?  Now note down your thoughts on the worksheet below                                                                                                                                                                                                              Task 2 22nd June
  3. What about your life skills list – how many can you do? What else have you learned that is not on the list? I have attached a copy of the list here to remind you. Tick off what you can do and add other skills you have developed.                                                                                                                                                                                           Life Skills to Learn During Lockdown
  4. What would help you learn in a more effective way while still working from home? Put your comments on the worksheet below.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Task 4 22nd June
  5. Send me the answers to each stage as you go. You can post it Teams.

It is Friday – Sharing Time

We have had three weeks of S.T.E.A.M. tasks.

Our first week was science, second engineering and this week art & design. Over the three weeks we also focused on mathematics. Via Twitter you had the opportunity to learn about lots of careers and also create your own topic.

Please let me know either here on Glow or via our Teams area what your own project was.

If you haven’t had a chance to check out Liam’s film look in our Teams area. It is a great piece of animation and took time and skill to create.

Which activity or area of S.T.E.A.M. did you enjoy most? Are  there some areas or careers you hadn’t thought about?  What attributes do you think you need to have a career in S.T.E.A.M?
