Watch the video first. Listen to what the engineers say. They talk about testing and retesting..in other words they don’t get it right first time! They try different angles and materials to use their knowledge of friction and gravity. You can use any material you have around the house. Have a go!
This week is S.T.E.M. week this stands for science, technology, engineering and mathematics. There will be lots of activities posted on Twitter throughout the week, if you use Twitter check it out.
Last week we focused on science activities. This week it is all about engineering. Every day this week I will post a new activity for you to explore.
I’ve posted information for RE for this week. A lovely activity for you to do.
We are on our 4th week with our opera. Some boxing tips along with a song and a quiz..check out the post below.
I will be in school this week so I have uploaded ALL tasks to Glow this week. No Teams Area tasks but please upload any photos to our science area.
Your literacy task is based on a science theme and I will also post a different maths task every day.
I know what you are thinking – how can I do all this and the things being put on Twitter! You don’t have to! Do the ones you can this week and save the others for another time. It is almost the summer holidays you could save some activities for then.
Check out the posts below – quite a few! Check Glow every day for new information. Let me know what you are up to either in the comments or by posting photos in Teams.
This week we find out the answer to what is making Jack so ill and explore deeper inside his body where, in a fantastical boxing match, the opposing forces struggle to win the match. Luckily, we have Alan and Lucy to teach us their best boxing moves. You can also test all your knowledge of germs, viruses and bacteria in this week’s activity, our Germ Warfare Quiz. Check it out below.
I hope you got a chance to draw a heart with the people you love inside it and give it into St Joseph’s Church. June is known as the month of the Scared Heart of Jesus. During this month we remember that Jesus was both God and human. He had a heart just like us. We associate hearts with love and that is just what the Scared Heart is about. It reminds of the great love Jesus has for us!
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque is famous for bringing people closer to devotion of the Scared Heart. Watch this short video about her life.
The prayer to the Scared Heart of Jesus is a devotion. A devotion is something that people do or say to show their love for God and Jesus.
Here is a really simple version of the prayer. Try to say it every day in June but especially on June 19th the feast of the Scared Heart.
“Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I put my trust in you.”
A fun way to celebrate is to make heart shaped biscuits or cookies!
You might want to make a heart for yourself to keep at home. Draw a big heart and write the names of everyone you love in it. Display it in your home for the month of June.
You might have a statue of the Sacred Heart at home or perhaps your gran and grandpa has one. If you face-time them or talk via the computer ask them to show you it.
Here is a colouring page you can use to display if you wish.
St. Margaret Mary Alacoque reported that Jesus appeared to her and made these twelve promises to all who honour an image of His Sacred Heart.
1. I will give them all the graces necessary for their state in life.
2. I will establish peace in their families.
3. I will comfort them in their trials.
4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and, above all, in death.
5. I will shed abundant blessings on all their undertakings
6. Sinners will find in My Heart an infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Lukewarm souls will become fervent.
8. Fervent souls will rapidly grow in holiness and perfection.
9. I will bless every place where an image of My Heart shall be exposed and honoured.
10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. The names of those who promote this devotion will be written in My Heart, never to be blotted out.
12. I promise thee, in the excessive mercy of My Heart, that My all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive Holy Communion on the First Friday of nine consecutive months, the grace of final penitence; they shall not die in My disgrace nor without receiving their Sacraments; My Divine Heart shall be their safe refuge in this last moment.
This video clip from BBC bitesize is a really good starting point for our STEM Engineering Week. It highlights the importance of observations, questions and retesting. Watch this before starting our daily tasks.
In class we worked in teams on a similar project using straws and marshmallows. This time you get to work on your own. Watch the video first. It gives important information on the design of different types of bridges. It also gives tips on how to succeed. You will need a packet of spaghetti, elastic bands and maybe some marshmallows!
This is a different type of literacy task this week. You need to listen to some information and make notes. Then share what you have found out with an adult.
This week we will not be using our Teams area for maths and numeracy as I will be in school during the day and unable to check both Glow and Teams areas. All tasks will be posted on Glow this week. As it is STEM week we will focus on mathematics concepts.
The following resources are all online and are interactive. You do not need a printer. Search for Twinkl Go then enter the following code to find some activities

Please complete this task before tackling the tessellation tasks.
Thank you for all the marvellous shape poems I’ve really enjoyed reading them.
I hope you found the number work a little reminder of our mental subtraction strategies and our place value knowledge. The answers were in the pack I uploaded.
