Chapters 2 and 3 of Harry Potter

Here are links to the most recent chapters of Harry Potter and the philosopher’s stone being read aloud by some familiar faces.

Chapter 2 is read aloud by Noma Dumezweni. Harry visits the zoo and realises that his scar isn’t the only unusual thing about him…

Chapter 3 is read aloud by Eddie Redmayne. The Dursleys  desperately try to escape the mysterious letters addressed to Mr H Potter. But will Harry ever get to read one?

Making minature books

Feeling creative and have some paper and glue at home? The British Library is creating a virtual library of miniature books with some of your favourite authors and you can be part of it. Make your own mini book and send it to them at @BL_Learning with #DiscoveringChildrensBooks .

Follow the instructions on the British Library website to construct your mini book. Add some content, such as your own story or retelling of a story, facts about your favourite sports player or subject, recipes, sketches – let your imagination fly!

Online comics workshop

Join Amy Tucker of Mystery club in an online workshop as part of #WigtownWednesdays on 13 May at 4.30pm. The author and illustrator of the comic book series Mystery Club joins Wigtown Book Festival to discuss how to get started and develop your own work. Learn what it takes to design and produce engaging, creative and unique comics, Amy will be discussing everything from character creation to dialogue.

Please note that the workshop is via Zoom and requires permission from your folks.

The tale o Tod Lapraik

Scots in schools has just added a new comic book to their collection of stories and poems in Scots: “Robert Louis Stevenson’s horror story The Tale o Tod Lapraik is a masterpiece of prose written in the Scots language. Scots Hoose is delighted to present Gary Welsh’s world-class artwork in this exciting new comic version of Stevenson’s classic story of suspense and cruelty set in the Firth of Forth on the mysterious Bass Rock.”
