Welcome (back!)

Welcome to a new and very different session at the school.  There may be many new ways of doing things this year but the welcome in the library hasn’t changed!

Unfortunately the Library is not open before school or at break/lunch at the moment. However there is an exciting prize to be won if you return all of your library books! Use the box in front of the School Office to hand anything back. It could be you!

Looking forward to seeing you in class!

Summer reading!

It may be the end of term but that doesn’t mean you have to stop reading! There will still be lots of author and book events online over the summer. Check @LRCBellshill from time to time as I will be tweeting over the break.

Don’t forget that while local libraries are still closed but you can use their eBook, audiobook and magazine service for free if you join online. This is open to everyone who lives, works or studies in NL. Access is via the Borrowbox app on your computer, tablet or phone and there is a great range of teen fiction available (CultureNL Borrowbox).

Find out more at CultureNL eLibrary.

Enjoy your holidays and I look forward to seeing you (and your library books) in August!

National insect week

It is National Insect Week this week (and no, I didn’t know either!). There are quite a few fun activities to do if you find bugs interesting:

“This year for National Insect Week we hope everyone can appreciate the ‘little things that run the world’ from wherever you live by doing some entomology at home.

If you can find a live insect, why not take a photo and enter our photography competition, look at our discover insect pages or use some of our learning resources such as our Garden Entomology booklet to find out what kind of insect it is.  Help scientists know more about the insect by making a biological record, that tells them where and when you saw it.  If you want to get creative you could do a drawing or other artwork inspired by your insect and contribute to our Insect Isles project.”

Alex Rider

Enjoying the new Alex Rider TV series on Amazon Prime Video? I’m not as I don’t have Amazon Prime!

Whether you are watching or not, the author Anthony Horowitz is reading each chapter of Stormbreaker (the first book in the Alex Rider series) on Youtube.  Chapter 9 is now available and you can also catch up on previous chapters.
