We went to Dalziel High School for a technology day to build a bridge.
As we arrived, representatives from the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) had a conversation with us to tell us that we were going to be building a cable stayed bridge. There were also three S1 pupils to help us with our task.
We were asked to wear high vis vests and helmets for safety reasons – some of us loved this and we felt like real engineers… some of us were more concerned about our hair!
We connected wooden planks to the cables using wing nuts and bolts. We worked in two teams to do this and eventually met in the middle, our bridge was complete! We were then given the chance to walk over our bridge. Although it was a little wobbly, we really enjoyed it.
We can’t wait to start Dalziel in August!
