What Being A Sports Leader Means To Me

After the all-girls sports day on Friday, We decided to talk to one of the sports leaders to find out what being a sports leader meant to them.

We interview Sean Duddy, A current Sixth year who has expressed a lot of interest in Sport and fitness. He said “this has been a class that I have had lot of interest in, it is also a good basis for a career involving sport which I plan to use after school”.  Being a sports leader gives you an insight to the teaching and responsibilities that lie ahead in a career in fitness. Sean explained that he found it harder than he expected and “found it quite hard to control the younger years but I learned that their opinions make a big difference in their performance”.

The sports Leaders really wanted to engage the girls. The 1st thing they done was conduct a survey to see what interests and also is off putting to the students. They then took back the surveys and choose the most popular choices to run in the hope of encouraging them to take part.

With the younger years it was found that dancing was the most popular choice however, with the older school group games such as bench ball and dodge ball took the win.

To get a pupil opinion we asked 6th year student Collette McStay what she thought of her experience. She said “Overall I really enjoyed the day and thought it was very well organised”. A few of the students including Collette, choose to take part in gymnastics also taken by two sixth year students Jennifer Murray and Katie Smith. She praised the girls and said “They took the class just as if they were teachers and that’s not an easy thing to do in front of all your friends. The class went smoothly without any trouble. Collette has enjoyed taking part in P.E and also likes to exercise and the gym in her spare time. Her final thoughts on the day were “It was very enjoyable and all the hard work and preparation put into the day really paid off”.

The all girls sports day was a large success and more than half of each year group participated and enjoyed it. Sean thought “It might be that choosing your own subjects makes it more enjoyable to take part in”, which seemed to be the case On Friday.  This was a brilliant opportunity to give young people who are interested in a career in P.E an insight and also gave young girls the chance to see that P.E can be enjoyable

  1. This is great work folks- this really gets an authentic sense of the views that the students have about the event. 🙂
