💄 Makeup Masterclass 💄

Over the last 5 weeks a targeted group of S3 girls have been attending a make-up masterclass every Wednesday afterschool from 3-4 with our S6 Captain Niamh Giffen.

Niamh is a well-known makeup artist in the Wishaw area, who works in a salon doing professional make up for clients at the weekends, and she also has her own YouTube channel which showcases the different kind of make-up looks, techniques and trends.

Niamh kindly offered her professional skills to teach the girls and give them the opportunity to develop their own professional make up and interpersonal skills and hopefully gain a dynamic youth award at the end of the year.

The girls have been doing each other’s make up with Niamh’s assistance. On Wednesday the 29th of November the girls held a Make-Up Masterclass for all female members of staff which allowed them to demonstrate the different skills that they have developed since the course started.

The girls sent out a personal invitation to all female members of staff to come along and see their progress and also have their makeup done by one of the girls. Some of the S6 girls kindly offered to be models for our S3 girls and were very impressed with the professionalism of the girls and the makeovers that they were given. Louise Cairns, teacher of PE and event organizer commented, “Kathleen and I have been impressed by the hard work, commitment and progress that the girls have shown over the last month. We are hoping that the s3 girls will be able to do the make up for the Christmas elves for the Victoria Park Party in the next couple of weeks.”

It looks like the girls are ready for any event, from catwalk glamour to Santa’s Grotto!

Talbot Centre

Fifth year held an assembly to mark the completion of their Religion Belief and Values Award. This award allows them to put the central values of their faith into action by taking leadership in planning and implementing a wide range of charitable activities to support the Talbot Centre- an organisation that supports vulnerable homeless men.

Fifth year student representatives spoke of how they had been enterprising: from twenty pounds start-up funding each class found ways to make the money grow and in the end eighty bags bursting with toiletries and hundreds of pairs of socks were purchased

The Assembly began with Fr Bruce our School Chaplain blessing the gifts. Then there was a presentation on the life of Matt Talbot. Student Dawid Graczyk added to the warm atmosphere in the event with some great singing and guitar.

Two representatives from the Matt Talbot Centre spoke about the work they do. The visitors remarked that our young people were outstanding and they felt quite uplifted when hearing about what our young people had done to help the homeless.

Bishop Toal interview

Bishop Toal Interview

S6 Journalists Christopher Quigley and Reece Larkins came up with some excellent questions for.

They asked Bishop Toal what his favorite dioceses that he has been a part of was. He said that even though he spend most of his life in the argyle and the isles and he is more familiar with that dioceses, he cannot decide on which one he prefers.

He also told us that he has been a bishop for 9 years and his anniversary will be on the 8th of December. He was a priest for “A very long time before that.” Bishop Toal told the journalists that being a bishop was very demanding.

He added “I think just trying to look after all the different aspects of the church life that you have to be responsible for. You have the responsibility of caring for the priests, the responsibility for the welfare of the parishes. The bishop wears the pectoral cross, which is from the Latin word “pectus” which means heart. So the bishop wears the cross next to his heart so that he is carrying Christ in is heart and offering Christ to the people.”
