What Are We Learning About?

Leaning about children’s rights is not a stand alone lesson, but is a part of everything we do and learn.  There will be natural links made to rights and the rights of others but there will also be opportunities to focus on specific rights as we celebrate or participate in monthly events/activities.

Rights of the Month

Month UNCRC Article Number/ Launch Pad Number Overview
August Children’s Choice Classroom charters to be set up and displayed.
September Article 27 This is linked to a good standard of living
October Article 22 Discussing with the children refugees living in Scotland and how they can be helped and supported.
November Article 12 and 13 November will be all about promoting awareness of children’s rights in the community. We will be linking up with Drumpark Primary and Nursery to do our Rights March.
December Article 14 The right to believe what you want. Could link to what Christian believe about Christmas and do a comparison.
January Article 30 Right to an identity. We celebrate Burns as we are Scottish look at dates special to other religions to children in our school e.g. Polish, Italian etc.
February Article 32 Linked to Fairtrade-looking at harmful working conditions etc.
March Article 29 Looking at our personal talents and what we are good at. Could link to World Book Day.
April Article 17 Gaining information but looking at safety. Internet safety.
May Article 15 Choosing own groups and making friends.
June Article 6 Be the best you can be. Reflecting on your time in your class and how you have developed.
