Nursery to Primary Transition
Pupils are allocated places in Glencryan Primary through North Lanarkshire Council’s Transition Pathway process. Nurseries make an application to the Transition Pathway in the October prior to the August start date they are seeking, if a child is allocated a place within Glencryan, families will be notified by late January, this then starts the transition process as detailed below.
February / March
DHT from Glencryan attends transition meetings with parents and nursery staff hosted by the nursery.
DHT meets and observes the child in current nursery setting.
Parents invited individually to Glencryan for tour of building.
April
Primary one teacher visits nurseries to observe the child in their current setting and speak with nursery staff.
May
All parents are invited to transition meeting to complete paperwork and meet Primary 1 staff team and extended team within Glencryan including Head Teacher, health professionals, speech and language etc.
Children attend four afternoon sessions at Glencryan where they meet their new classmates and class staff and explore their new classroom and play areas.
We find that four sessions are usually enough for the children to get used to the school but if we feel there is a need for more we will arrange them during June.
June
We understand that having a child in the family who is starting at an ASN school can raise a lot of questions for extended family such as siblings, grandparents etc so we hold a family fun afternoon for all new children to come along with their families and enjoy some fun outdoor activities and let their family and friend see their new school.
