Parents’ Evening
Parents Evenings give parents the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress and behaviour at school. They also provide parents with the opportunity to update school with any new or relevant information about their child.
Parents Evenings are held twice a year in each department. Parents will receive a read and return letter or text message home informing them about the date Parents Evening is scheduled to take place. If your child is currently in Secondary or Senior Phase, you will be required to choose the teachers you wish to see. The duration of the meeting is approximately 10 minutes. Parents are encouraged to stick to the allocated time slots and if they are unable to attend to contact the school.
The class teacher will input into your Childs progress and behaviour however there may be questions that you may wish to raise. They may include questions from the following areas.
General Progress:
“How is my child progressing in your class?”
Strengths and Weaknesses:
“What are my child’s strengths and areas for improvement in this subject?”
Engagement in Class:
“How does my child engage in class discussions and activities?”
Specific Areas:
“Is there anything I should be aware of regarding my child’s progress in certain subject areas? [specific subject]?”
Support at Home:
“What are some specific things I can do at home to support my child’s learning in this subject?”
Resources:
“Are there any recommended resources, websites, or books to support their learning?”
Next Steps: “What are the next steps or expectations for my child in this subject?”
Social and Emotional Well-being:
Classroom Behaviour:
“Can you tell me about their behaviour and attitude in class?”
Social Interactions:
“How is my child getting along with other students in the class?”
Friendships:
“Are there any specific friendships they have formed in class?”
Concerns:
“Is there anything that is causing you concern regarding my child?
