Glencryan School

About Us

Glencryan School is a non-denominational additional support needs school located in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire.  We cater for pupils with a wide range of additional support needs at all stages of Primary and Secondary education.  Enrolment to the school is through North Lanarkshire Council’s Needs Based Pathway Review.

Within the school we have three departments, Primary (P1 – P7),  Secondary (S1 – S3)  and Life Skills (S4 – S6).   Each department supports the children in their learning with the focus areas of literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing being delivered by core teaching staff.  Other areas are covered through a mixture of  interdisciplinary learning,  delivery by specialists or accessing external agencies, providers or the local community.  Please visit the departmental areas from our menu to learn more about each.

Pupils across all departments are supported by small class sizes and a high adult to child ratio which provides them with a nurturing environment in which to thrive.  A total communication environment using speech, visual signage and Makaton sign language is operated throughout the school.

We work closely with our partners from external agencies such as health and social work to ensure that in addition to the pupils’ educational needs we are also supporting their health and wellbeing requirements.
For our pupils who require personalised support in areas such as eating and drinking, personal care, communication and regulating their emotions, our staff are trained to deliver this in a respectful and dignified way which supports the children and young people while affording them as much independence as possible.
