Welcome Back……..
It has been great to see all the children and families in our 3-5 playroom and our 2-3 playroom returning after the holidays. A big welcome to our new children and their families. We hope you all had a lovely break and the staff are looking forward to working in partnership with you in 2017.
The children have been busy this week re-establishing nursery routines. They have continued to enjoy performing on stage showing us there musical talents. Lots of excitement as the snow arrived at the end of the week resulted in lots of snow ball throwing and sliding. In the forth coming weeks children in the 3-5 playroom will be learning more about Scotland and where Forgewood lies within it. Throughout their learning children will be exploring stories, rhymes and songs as well as taking part in weekly Kodaly music opportunities and daily Three Read Approach to literacy sessions. We will also be having visits from the pupils of Braidhurst High School who will be reading children Scottish Stories as well as providing performances from Pipers, Highland Dancers and Drummers.
In our 2-3 playroom the children have also been re-establishing the routines. They have been introduced to elements of the Three Read approach to literacy and have been exploring the story Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. This story has been read each day and the children have been listening , turn taking and interacting by taking turns to lift the flaps on each page. They have been using the animal puppets and exploring new vocabulary. The children have also been taking part in together time at the end of the session, choosing songs from the song box, joining in action songs and ring games.

This week we are learning.

In the writing area the children have been learning that writing has a purpose by writing cards and letters to friends and family. Some children went a walk to the local post office to buy stamps.
Outdoors the children have been also writing for a purpose, they have been writing letters to post just like “The Jolly Christmas Postman”. The children are becoming more confident in using the balance bikes to deliver their mail.
The Children now have a real stage courtesy of the drama department in the high school, they have been going on visits to the School show rehearsals to experience being a part of an audience. The children have been using their voices to sing dance and perform for others.
The children are developing a understanding of caring and being kind to others, in the creative area they have been making their own wrapping paper to wrap boxes as presents.
In the Maths area the children are learning to take turns in different situations listening and talking to their friends as they play a variety of games.
Everyone made a brilliant effort for Christmas Jumper day, the children looked great and were keen to show off their jumpers to their friends and staff. £30 was raised thanks to all who donated.
Reindeer dust is on sale at the door in collaboration with Braidhurst High school Elite Enterprise group at £1 per bag all proceeds to nursery funds.
The Christmas hamper and raffle will also be drawn on the day of the party, raffle tickets will be available until Wednesday 21st December @4pm.
Christmas party is Thursday 22nd December at 9.15am and 1.00pm in Forgewood Community centre please see following post for details.

Toddler room festive fun
The children in the toddler room have been getting into the festive spirit over the last few weeks, by helping to decorate our christmas tree, and made salt dough decorations to take home. We had fun playing in the foam snow, searching for glitter trees and making snowballs with it, and we painted our hands to make hand print reindeer cards for our mummies and daddies. We have been listening to some lovely Christmas stories and learning new Christmas songs about santa and playing our bells along to our songs.

We have been learning….
The children have been reading The Jolly Christmas Postman story, learning about the joy of giving and the importance of caring and sharing.
During Outdoor Learning the children have been role playing as the Jolly postman delivering cards on the bikes to their friends. They are taking turns to play,”Whats the Time Mr Wolf”, through this they are learning caring, sharing and taking turns are ways to build friendships.
There have been visits to the stage in the High School and the children have helped to build their own stage in the nursery. They are becoming confident in putting on performances for their friends and the ladies. We have some excellent singers, dancers and musicians entertaining everyone, the future stars of X factor might be among us.
In the Messy area the children have been making props to use in their performances, and making wrapping paper for Christmas presents.
In the story corner the children have been enjoying the book The Jolly Christmas Postman being read to them, this has been learning them an awareness of when to talk and listen whilst learning the importance of sharing and caring in developing friendships.
In the Maths area the caring and sharing has also been taking place as children take turns in games and are encouraging each other to play and follow the rules.
In the writing area the children have been writing with a purpose to make Christmas cards for friends and family.
The Three Read has been continuing and the children are enjoying their stories. Some children have been making gingerbread men after their story. Other groups have been for ice cream are building jigsaws and having picnics!
