Entry to Nat 4 Apps

Holly is thinking of a positive integer.

She states “Twenty times my number is less than its square by 156”

Use the clue to work out Holly’s number.

After 9 lies, the length of his nose will be 2⁹ x 5 = 512 x 5 = 25.6m which is close to the length of a tennis court, which is 23.8m

Pinocchio’s nose is 5cm long.  Each time he tells a lie, his nose doubles in length.

After he has told nine lies, his nose will be roughly the same length as

a) domino b) tennis racket  c) snooker table   d) tennis court e) football pitch

2  Count the number of enclosed spaces in each number.  E.g. an 8 has 2 enclosed spaces, a 0 has one and a 9 has one, so 8809 has 6.

the missing number is 12.  The rule is to add the all the digits in the boxes which lead into the box below.  E.g. 7+2+9+9 = 27, 2+7+4+5 = 18 etc.
