National 5 PE
Welcome to the CNHS N5 Physical Education Site.
Here you will find full course materials to help you prepare for success in the N5 course.
There are 2 main aspects of the course:
Performance (50% of final grade)
Portfolio Unit (50% of final grade)
Performance Unit at National 4/5
Throughout the year pupils take part in a range of activities including; Basketball, Football, Hockey, Badminton and Trampolining. During these activities pupils will work through a development programme based on improving fitness and overall skill level.
For National 5, pupils will be practically assessed in two activities of their choice in separate one-off performances. This is worth 60 marks which equates to 50% of their overall mark.
Any pupils whose strongest activity does not feature in the course can still be assessed on this activity for their grade (e.g. Netball, swimming etc.)
Portfolio unit at National 5
The purpose of this portfolio is to provide evidence of the process involved in performance development. It will assess the learner’s ability to integrate and apply knowledge, understanding and skills from across a range of activities. Evidence will be collated by the pupil (with support from the teacher) on an ongoing basis during the year. Pupils will follow a training programme based on one of the practical activities mentioned above, before using this as the basis for their portfolio
The Portfolio is comprised of three sections where pupils who complete this unit will be able to:
- Understand the factors that impact on performance (Mental/Emotional/Physical/Social).
- Plan, develop and implement approaches to enhance personal performance.
- Monitor, record and evaluate performance development.
