Higher Computing Science

The Higher Computing Science course enables pupils to further their understanding of computers and continue their development from the National 5 course. Pupils will analyse various problems involving web design, software development and database creation and will design and create digital solutions to solve these problems. During the year pupils will develop their computational thinking, digital literacy and continue to develop their personal reflection skills.

Pupils will create a working website using HTML, JavaScript and CSS while learning all about the structure of a website, advantages of dynamic web page design, and explanation of the hardware required for a website to run. This will also include various accessibility options available for people with difficulties using a website.

Pupils will learn about the legal, economic and social impact of computer systems to help them understand the effect that computers have had since their introduction and how they have changed almost everything that we do. Pupils will also continue to develop their programming skills to complete course assessments that will go towards the final qualification. As well as the practical part of the course pupils will sit an exam at the end of the school year.
