The second year computing course becomes more specialised and teaches you more about how a computer works. This will involve learning all about the hardware that a computer needs to function. This will range from the smartphones that you have in your pockets to the games consoles you play at home. This will teach you all about the variety of computers and how they are contained in everyday objects around us.
You will then move on to learning how to use various software packages that are available to us through Glow. This will include: Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and various other programs. This will continue your development to become more computer literate and will allow you to learn useful skills for later in life.
Second year computing will also include a multimedia topic that will involve creating and editing your own music, creating your won video about the environmental impact of computers. This topic will end with a video presentation to the other pupils in your class.
Building on your work in first year you will continue to programming using the Scratch environment creating various programs that will help you to understand the programming constructs that will be used in every programming language. This will help your progression to the higher levels of the Computing Science course.
