In S3 Computing Science you will continue to develop the skills you have gained in first and second year. This will include your creative thinking, problem solving and your ability to use a computer to create digital solutions to various computing problems.
You will learn about how computers are connected in a network, different ways in which they can be connected and the reasons why we connect computers together. This will range from your own network in the house to a much larger network that spans different countries. We will also look at the various security issues that can occur on a network or online. This will allow us to stay safe when we are connected to a network.
Pupils will create a digital database and learn about the various advantages of using an electronic database over a manual database. The next unit of work is Website Design and Development where pupils will learn how to create fully-featured (multimedia heavy) webpages and then websites. These key skills can be used throughout their time in the Computing department.
Pupils will also learn about ‘low level machines’ This will involve binary, different memory sizes and how the computer turns everything to binary to understand instructions. This will help the pupils progress to the national levels of the course.
