Swim and Gym

We had a great day at Sir Matt Busby Sports Centre enjoying both time in the swimming pool and in the gym hall. All the children were extremely tired in the afternoon! CouldĀ  you let me know what your favourite part of the morning was? Could you also post ideas on how we can improve our organisational skills in getting ready after the swimming so we don’t lose any gym time?

The Twits

We have been reading The Twits by Roald Dhal. We all agree that the Twits are the most disgusting people we have ever heard about, although they are rather funny. We have come across several characters and decided to create some interview questions and carry out some “Hot Seating”. Here are some of the children being the poor frog who was stuck in a bed with Mrs Twit. Some really interesting questions arose and all related to what we had previously read.

Bottle Greenhouse

We are trying to decide how to improve the bottle greenhouse and make it more attractive. We have also discussed what improvements we could make to encourage a variety of wildlife to this area. We have lots of fantastic ideas and we hope to begin this project soon. This activity will be part of our John Muir work this year. Here we are taking notes.

Welcome To Primary 5

What a fantastic day I had with the new Primary 5 children. It was really interesting to hear about all the fun they had during the summer holidays. We carried out lots of team building activities and I was impressed how quickly and easily we all worked as a team. We have set the class rules, which I’m sure we will all follow and decided our rewards for Class Dojo. We finished the day with a ‘Find Someone Who…’ activity which was a lot trickier than it looked. We even had time for a selfie!

IDL Homework

This year Primary 5 have studied various topics. First we looked at Scotland’s heritage, focussing on kings and queens and the Battles of Independence. We then learned all about the Solar System. Our next topic was a country comparison with Scotland and the Arctic, which was cut really short because of our work on the John Muir award. Can you tell me which of these four topics was your favourite and what activities you enjoyed most? Was there anything about this topic you didn’t enjoy? I’m looking for a detailed paragraph for your answer

Science Investigation 2

We completed our second science investigation this week. We completed our investigations in groups of four. We had to decide on our variables and what we were going to do to ensure fair testing. The groups chose their own variables and completed their workbook. The children were extremely mindful of health and safety issues and had a great time whilst learning about chemical reactions.Ā  Charys’ team were the champions, most of their tubs rose about 2 metres but one of Emilie’s team’s tubs went right over the fence! The best bit of the afternoon seemed to be when one tub exploded over me and covered my trousers in lemonade and Vitamin C!!

These investigations cover maths literacy and science all in one lesson as well as fabulous team work.

Perhaps you can record what happened with your variable and the height your tub rose.

Here are a few videos of what we were doing

Rights And Responsibilities

In Health and Wellbeing we have been looking at the rights and responsibilities of children. We looked at the United Nations and their impact on today’s children. It was hard to believe that the things we take for granted are luxuries for other children. Here we are matching the responsibility to the respective right.
