Primary 2/1 enjoyed their slot at at the school allotment today. Mrs. Raeburn and her little helper Sion were there to meet us. There were a few jobs needing done, so we split into three groups. Peas, potatoes and sunflowers all needed to be sewn. We all had fun looking around the different plots and finding out about the various plants and vegetables. Mrs. Raeburn let us smell some of the herbs she had planted last week. Mr. McCartney also came around to ask some of the children to plant beetroot. We saw the strawberries that Ellie had planted with her Papa’s help. Thanks to all of our helpers including Mrs. Kumar, who enjoyed planting the sunflowers.

Primary 2/1 are enjoying taking part in the crazy hair/onesie day! Thanks for all your donations!
Chocolate Easter Nests
Primary 2/1 made chocolate Easter nests and then went on to write instructions on how to make them. Learning can be tasty!
Paired Reading
Primary 2/1 were taking part in a fluency task today. The children worked in partners to hear each others reading and practice reading with increased fluency.
Money, Money, Money
P.2/1 have been finding out more about money and coins. This links well to our People in Society theme and with our Magic Reindeer Dust enterprise. We have been playing in the shop, making money men and ordering the coins. Next we will be adding up totals, finding change and working out the correct coins we need for an amount. Learning is fun!
St Andrew’s Hospice
We really enjoyed finding out more about St Andrew’s Hospice and the important service they provide for Lanarkshire. We found out about the different jobs people do there. Lynsey posed for a sensible photo and a crazy one too!
Magic Reindeer Dust!
As  part of our topic, “People in Society”, P.2/1 have taken on the important role of creating Magic Reindeer Dust. This will help Santa find the right houses when he sees it sparkling in the garden and it’s a tasty snack for the busy reindeer!  We needed labels for our little bags of magic so we had a design competition to find the best label. Ben, Isla and Erin’s labels were all chosen. Well done to them!  Our special Magic Reindeer Dust will be for sale at the Nativity performance on Dec 16th. They cost £1 per bag and all profits will be donated to St. Andrew’s Hospice.
Lynsey from St.Andrew’s Hospice came in to talk to P.2/1 about all the jobs that people do at the hospice. It was very interesting to find there were lots of different jobs that need to be done to keep the hospice going. We also found out that the hospice needs £65,ooo a week to keep running! Lynsey was grateful that we are going to raise money for the hospice by selling our Magic Reindeer Dust. If you are at the Nativity performance please buy a bag, but don’t worry children can bring in £1 to school to buy a bag too!
We used our ICT time to design posters and they look pretty good!
