We have been very busy in class recently. We became scientists and carried out an investigation on Materials. We also, as part of our Focus on Food week, made Summer Fruit smoothies. We prepared the fruit with the help of Mrs.Coll and Mrs.Stirling. It was great fun and our smoothies were delicious!
Rainbow Fish
We made our own Rainbow Fish out of clay! It was messy fun!
Welcome to Primary 1!
Welcome to Primary 1’s blog! We have been learning so much in the last two weeks! We have learned about numbers and sounds and we have made new friends. Everything was new at first, but we are getting used to our new routine! We even got our photo taken for the paper!
Summer Fun!
Primary 1b made the most of the gorgeous weather by taking our activities outdoors. The class had a fabulous time in the sunshine.
Calderglen Country Park
Primary 1a and Primary 1b went to Calderglen Country Park. The children had a very active day exploring the nature trails, playing at the park and visiting the zoo.
Allotment Visit
Primary 1b had a lovely afternoon visiting the local allotments. We learned about the vegetables which have been planted and met some lovely people who were tending their own allotments.
The class also learned about Data Handling and created a bar graph which had a plants theme. The children had a fabulous time and can’t wait to visit again when the vegetables have grown.
Teddy Bear Day
All children in Primary 1 took part in a sponsored Teddy Bear Day in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice. Primary 1b raised £293.00 for this special charity. Thank you very much to all who sponsored the children.
The class had a very busy and fun filled day. We made Teddy Bear Hats, created Teddy Bear Picnic invites for our friends, wrote stories about our soft toys, made teddy bear puppets and even got a chance to wear our aprons to make Teddy Bear Biscuits. Everyone finished off the day with a Teddy Bear Picnic, where we ate our picnic food and joined in with teddy bear songs and rhymes.
Lifecycle of a Butterfly and Symmetry
The class are learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly through their ‘ Spring’ themed mini-topic. As part of this topic they have been learning about symmetry. Today the children created symmetrical butterflies using paint. It was very messy but lots of fun. Tomorrow, the class will write instructions about how they created their butterflies. Writing is really improving within the class and all children are becoming much more independent.
Phonics
Primary 1b have been very busy learning this weeks sound ‘oo’. The children worked with partners to say, make, break, read, write and blend ‘oo’ words. They enjoyed taking turns and are all doing very well at blending. This is helping them to develop word attack strategies. They even managed to write sentences using the ‘oo’ words. Aren’t they clever?
