Third year or S3 is known as the “change over year”. At the start of S3, our pupils are working solely from the experiences and outcomes (Es and Os) from the BGE (Broad General Education) but by the end of S3 our aim is to have our pupils on the best track possible to achieve a National 3, 4 or 5 award by the end of S4 and beyond.

We are permitted to “blend” the learning (click here for more information) and endeavour to provide “a seamless transition from Es and Os into qualifications by blending learning which is relevant to both“.

We are also required to “provide learning in S3 which rounds off effectively the BGE phase and, at the same time, covers learning which will prepare young people well for qualification courses they may follow in S4”.
