The BGE (Broad General Education) is a pupil driven course. We endeavour to find out where each pupil is on their maths journey, what they need to do to improve and what is the best way for them to get there.
Cumbernauld Academy’s Mathematics BGE course is designed to be a spiral. Pupils will meet concepts/topics on more than one occasion throughout S1 to S3, allowing them to practise the skills they have already mastered and to learn new and more challenging skills in that particular field of Mathematics.
The course is split into 4 programmes of study, each of which is assessed formally and 2 topics that are assessed informally. In general:
Block 1 is Whole Numbers, Decimals and Data Handling
Block 2 is Time, Fractions, Angles and Symmetry
Block 3 is Coordinates/Negative Numbers, SI Units, Area/Perimeter, Volume and Expressions/Equations
Block 4 is Multiples/Factors/Primes, 2D/3D work, Sequences and Ratio/Proprtion
We also cover Bearings/Scales and Probability separately.
