What does a peacock look like?
The peacock has a pattern of eyes to scare away predators. It is most recognised by those eyes.

What they eat
they eat caterpillars and adult ones sip nectar from flowers like buddleia thistles and dandelions.
Life cycle
Their eggs are small and a pale green colour mostly looking like green grapes they are laid in clusters on nettles. Their caterpillar form is black with spiky hairs that are fed in groups. When they become a chrysalis they become a greenish or brown colour they also hang from plants. When they become an adult butterfly they become bright and colourful.


How they survive in winter
When it becomes autumn the peacock find a safe cool place like a hollow tree a shed or a garage or maybe leaf piles it hibernates throughout winter and wakes up in the early spring to lay more eggs
Fun facts:
If threatened it flashes its eyespots and makes a hissing Sound my rubbing its wings together.
It’s one of the first butterfly’s to be seen in spring.
Groups of caterpillars often live together in silk webs on nettles.
