Numeracy

According to the National Numeracy Organisation being numerate means:

We at Airdrie Academy believe that all our pupils deserve the right to be numerate and as a whole school are committed to developing all our young peoples’ Numeracy Skills.

We believe that by increasing the profile of Numeracy and engaging pupils with fun meaningful activities, their Numeracy skills will improve across the curriculum.

In addition to this we are developing a consistent approach to teaching Numeracy across all leaning. This will allow our pupils to see the connections in Numeracy and allow them to understand Numeracy in the world around us.

Our Numeracy Aims:

  • To develop every pupils Numeracy skills and understanding
  • To make numeracy fun and engaging
  • To raise the profile of numeracy to secure a high standard of numeracy across the curriculum.
  • To ensure the consistency of methodology, vocabulary and notation of numeracy by developing the cross curricular use of numeracy.
  • To ensure an effective cross curricular approach to the development of numeracy and improve cross curricular opportunities to highlight pupils awareness.
  • To ensure students are aware of what is expected of their numeracy skills
