Health and Food Technology will covers 3 topics:
1 Food Product Development
You will learn about how products are designed and manufactured. You will design and make your own food products with your own ideas. You will learn how to carry out research to make new products.
2 Food For Health
You will learn how diet is linked very closely to health. You will make food products that have health benefits, but are very tasty! You will design and make food products to suit particular needs e.g. “Design and make a healthy dessert suitable for a school canteen”.
3 Contemporary Food Issues
You will examine and debate issues such as organic food, fair trade food, food additives and local food. You will design and make food products which tackle these issues e.g. “Design and make a food product suitable for an environmentally aware consumer”.
All HFT topics include both practical and theory lessons. You will carry out a practical activity every week in S2 and S3. Most practical activities involve cooking. A few of them involve tasting shop bought products.
