At Airdrie Academy English is the not simply the study of literature, it is an opportunity to connect with our language through social interaction, reading and writing.

The courses created by the English Department are designed to offer pupils the best opportunity to develop their skills in reading, writing, listening and talking. All courses enable learners to develop their literacy skills and to understand, analyse and evaluate a range of texts in the contexts of literature, language and media. Furthermore, English also enables learners to create and produce texts, from essays to creative writing, and to apply their knowledge and understanding of language.

Our priority is to provide pupils with not only the literacy tools and skills they need in order to establish themselves in work or further study, but with an appreciation of literature in all forms and the ability to decipher the true meaning behind the words that surround us.
