Happy Diwali!

We have been celebrating Diwali this week, the Hindu festival of light. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita, watched a CBeebies show about the things Hindu people do at this time of year and we made Rangoli patterns at the entrance to the nursery and to the school to welcome people and to bring them good luck. Today we also had a visit from Rubeena who taught us some traditional dancing.

Summerlee Museum

Thank you very much to all of the parents, carers, grandparents, friends and family who came on our trip to Summerlee. The children all seemed to have a great time visiting both the museum and the miners village. There are some pictures below showing some of the things we did.

Monkey Music

The children from the afternoon session had a visit from Monkey Music to promote their classes. The nursery staff hope to be able to invite Monkey Music back to the nursery after the Christmas holidays to work with both the morning and afternoon sessions.

Jubilee Tea Party

Westfield Nursery celebrated the Queen’s 60th Jubilee with a special Tea Party. The children all had the opportunity to play on the bouncy castle or the bouncy slide and all had a special snack of cream scones and juice. Some parents made it to the celebrations too, a great time was had by all!

Senses

Our topic for May was senses. We did a lot of different experiments to test our taste, smell, sight, touch and hearing.

We even had our nursery trip to explore more about our senses at the Science Centre in Glasgow. Thanks to all of the helpers who made this trip possible.

Zoo Lab

The children have been learning about caring for our world and springtime. Aileen from Zoo Lab came to visit to talk to the children about how she cares for her pets. Some of the children love getting up close to the animals but other children preferred to keep their distance. The photos below show the children with some of Aileen’s pets.

Nursery Rhymes

Throughout February the nursery children have been learning lots of different nursery rhymes. We have focused on rhymes such as “Incy Wincy Spider”, “Little Miss Muffet” and “Miss Polly had a Dolly”. The children have taken part in lots of literacy, numeracy and expressive art activities involving these rhymes. Some of the pictures below show the children enjoying their learning.
