Westfield Nursery

In August and September we were learning about minibeasts. The children had the opportunity to take part in many activities to develop their knowledge of minibeasts. Some photos have been uploaded of the things we have been doing over the last four weeks.

Zoo Lab visited our nursery to teach the boys and girls all about Minibeasts, our topic. We had the opportunity to look at and touch a variety of minibeasts such as cockroaches, stick insects, hermet crabs, millipedes, snails, snakes and tarantulas. Some children were really brave and enjoyed touching the minibeasts but others preferred to keep their distance!!

Thank you to everyone who helped the children practise their words and for attending our assemblies. The nursery staff are sad to see all of the big boys and girls moving on to school and wish them all the best. They can’t wait to come back from their summer holidays and spend another year with the children returning for next session!

The nursery children took part in the School’s Go Yellow Day for Strathcarron Hospice, we raised £41 of the £243.20 total. Thank you to everyone for taking part.

The nursery children would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped raise funds for our new climbing tower. It was installed on the 15th May and the children have had a lot of use out of it already.

The nursery would like to send a big thank you to both Motherwell and Cumbernauld fire stations for sending their engine and firefighters on a visit. The children and staff all really enjoyed learning about fire safety.

The children are working hard to raise money for our outdoor climbing frame. Here are some photos of their sponsored obstacle course. Thank you to everyone who sponsored the children.

We celebrated Chinese New Year in nursery at the start of February. We took part in lots of themed activities such as making money envelopes, lanterns, fans, a dragon and a snake. We also had a special Chinese snack – noodles, rice and prawn crackers. Some of the children were expert chopstick users!!!

Since returning from the Christmas holidays we have all been working hard to get back into our routines. We started our tooth brushing programme in January and have had a visit from Charise our tooth brushing lady to show us how to brush properly. We have also been learning about Winter time and Birds. We were hoping to take part in the RSPB bird watch but unfortunately we didn’t see many birds visiting the nursery garden!
