Alfie

In January we used four Alfie stories for our topic. Through the stories we learned about Water, Ice and Snow. We took part in lots of indoor and outdoor activities to extend our learning.

Christmas

Christmas was a very busy time of year for the boys and girls at Westfield Nursery Class. We practised and performed our nativity, “Our First Nativity”; watched the school perform their nativity; and watched the P7s singing their Christmas Carols. We also had a visit from Santa, his snowman and reindeer at our Christmas Party. Here are some photos of the fun and educational things we have been doing.

St Andrew’s Day

To celebrate St Andrew’s Day we invited Mhairi from Hi5 for Fruit to come into nursery and make smoothies with us. She talked to the children about the Scottish flag.

Autumn and Harvest

We have been taking part in lot of outdoor learning for this topic, this has allowed us to note the changes in the environment as the seasons change. We have used our imaginations to recreate what we noticed outdoors in our artwork and pictures.

Firefighters

When we returned in August the children engaged in a lot of role play, mostly in the context of firefighters. Staff observed this and decided it would be a great topic for the month of September. The children loved role play with the costumes and clothes and simulated lots of real life situations when playing in the garden and in the classroom. In addition to our role play, we were very lucky to receive a visit from the local firefighters. The children also learned about safety in the nursery and at home.

Our Community

Throughout the month of March we learned about the shops and services that we can use in our local community. We set up our own shop and post office in the nursery role play areas. We learned about coins and used pretend money in our role play areas.

In March we also had sessions from North Lanarkshire Mini Movers every Monday to teach us some dance routines.

Walk to Condorrat Village

The nursery staff would like to thank all of the adults who walked to Condorrat Village with the children. Since the walk they have all been very engaged in their learning about the shops and services in Our Local Community.

Pirates

Throughout February we were learning positional movement such as above, below, under, next to, etc through our Pirates topic. We took part in treasure hunts and used technology to support our learning. We were also encouraged to think about who we were working with and what we chose to do.
