P6/5 Jacobites Cooperative Learning Groups

Happy New Year everyone!

We are so excited to be back at school, catching up with our friends again. This term, we have started learning about the Jacobites. We’re especially excited because we are working with the primary 6 children from Mrs Wilson’s class too! Between the two classes, we have found our new ‘cooperative clans’, and we can’t wait to research this topic together. Have a look below at us designing the shields for our clans.

Primary 7 athletics competition

Yesterday Primary 7 travelled to the Tryst in Cumbernauld to take part in the athletics competition with different schools from North Lanarkshire.  There were 15 schools there competing altogether.

We were able to use the skills we have learned in PE over the last few weeks to complete the different activities. In the morning there were field events and in the afternoon we completed track events. All our points will be added together and we will find out soon if we are through to the next part of the competition. Fingers crossed!

Here are some photographs of our day…

Primary 7 Athletics

This week has come to the end of the 6 week athletics block which P7 have been participating in. They have learned a lot of different skills in completing activities for their athletics competition at the Tryst next week, which involves many schools from North Lanarkshire.

Kenny, Melissa and Austen have been great coaches in helping us improve our skills.

Here are some pictures of us during our PE lessons.

Measuring with Primary 7

On Friday, Primary 7 had a lot of fun carrying out practical measuring activities.

We have been learning to measure length in mm, cm, m and km (although we didn’t have a big enough space inside school to measure a kilometre!!) We were able to use a range of resources to complete our measuring.

These included rulers, metre sticks and trundle wheels.

We made a list of the things we were going to measure then set off with our partners to complete the task.

Here are some photographs of our active maths lesson.

Who Stole the cookies?

Primary 5/4 were working as detectives today using their knowledge addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to solve who stole the cookies from the cookie jar.  Each answer represented a letter and the children were given clues.  Working well in trios they were able to solve all the clues and worked out that Betty Lou must have been very hungry and she stole all the cookies.  The Cookie Monster was so relieved because everyone thought he was the culprit that he decided to share his cookies with the whole class!

Some of P4’s work this week.

Science

This week we learned about different materials.

We used the environment around us to identify and classify objects by their material

e.g. windows – glass, bin – plastic, padlock – metal.

Fireworks

On Thursday we learned about onomatopoeia and the different words that we can use to describe how things sound and feel.

We used this knowledge to help us create a piece of fireworks art. The children had to use straws to move the paint around their paper to create the look of fireworks exploding.
