Our Primary 1 pupils have been working very hard at home to create their own lighthouses as part of their class topic ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’.

Never let it be said that the January weather holds back the learning at New Stevenston Primary. Our outdoor space is a major part of the learning experiences for our pupils. Already today we have had upper school classes outside completing their daily mile, Primary 2 visiting the Riccard Johnston Site (The Coby)  and below are pictures of P4 taking part in a ‘Space’ themed orienteering challenge and P5 learning some karate stances as part of their Japan topic.

Last week’s ‘Respect Me Week’ was a great success with lots of hard work and discussions around this area.

On Sunday 24th of April Mrs Hendry will be running in the London Marathon 2016, a 26.2 mile race round the city of London.
Once again she will be part of the running team for The National Autistic Society. The National Autistic Society supports people and families living with this lifelong condition and is close to the hearts of many of us in our school community. Mrs Hendry ran for The National Autistic Society in the London Marathon 2015 and raised a massive £3300.

School Support
Last year we supported Mrs Hendry in many ways as a school community. We encouraged her with our well wishes through her training and on the day of the big event I know our positive thoughts helped keep her going through those difficult miles. We also helped in the fundraising process. Last year our pupils were encouraged to ‘guess the birthday’ of Mr Twizzle, a cuddly character knitted by Mrs Hendry herself. In return it was very beneficial to use Mrs Hendry as an example across the school of many of the aspects of our Health and Wellbeing curriculum. It has helped emphasise the importance of setting goals and having the determination to achieve these.
Fundraising
Mrs Hendry spoke at last week’s assembly and introduced the children to Scotty and Morag. Both knitted by herself.

They both live in Glen Sunnybogle in the Highlands. Scotty is a keeper of wild haggis and Morag is an expert knitter of the clan tartan. She comes with her own knitting bag including knitting needles and wool.

Pupils can win these toys by trying to guess the clan name for each toy. It costs 50p for each guess. Children can buy as many clan names as they like.

The clan names will go on sale on from Monday 11^th January to Thursday 28^th January.   Primary 7 children will be selling the clan names.

The draw will take place on Friday 29^th January at our whole school assembly.

P1 and P2 & 3 Party children can be taken home for lunch at 12:15pm to get ready

on their party day. If children are staying in school for lunch they can wear party

clothes all day or bring them and change at lunchtime.

Church Service

Our church service is due to begin around 9:30am or the length of time it takes us to get

from the school to the church after morning registration. Parents are welcome to join

us for this at the church. Could we ask that to help the school stay together we get our

classes fitted in first of all and then parents fit in around us. Please note if the weather is

bad we will have the service in school and unfortunately cannot invite parents. We will

text in the morning.

Christmas Jumpers

To help brighten up the shortest day of the year, Monday 21^st December, all staff and children are encouraged to come to school in Christmas themed clothing (Christmas jumpers/t-shirts etc.). No donations necessary!

Packed lunches

As we inevitably amass left packed lunches throughout the year all packed lunches will be cleared from packed lunch trolleys on Monday 21^st and sent home. Any unclaimed and unnamed boxes will be disposed of. On Tuesday packed lunch boxes will be kept in class to keep the trolleys clear for January.

NB School closes at 2.30pm on Tuesday 22^nd December & re-opens Wednesday 6^th January

School and nursery will be open as normal on Monday 22nd June.

As you may well have seen from NLC website our school and nursery will remain closed on Friday 19th June.

This will also mean that the school disco planned for tomorrow night will also be cancelled.

Primary 7b and Primary 7 from 6/7 were due to perform their assembly tomorrow. It is our intention to now include this within the Leavers’ Ceremony on Wednesday morning.
