Good Morning everyone. Hope you are all well today. I see some of you have done tasks we have set on Sumdog and Studyladder. Well done. What have you chosen to do from the grid this week?
What daily exercises have you managed to do? It would be great to hear how you are all getting on.
I hope you are well this morning. I have attached the Chilli Challenge learning grid for this week, which activities will you choose today? Remember to have a wee look on Microsoft Teams and maybe share some of the activities you have been doing at home. Remember you can also share your learning on the School Twitter page and emailing your teacher through Glow. The staff at Muir Street Primary have created a wee surprise for you all, have a look on our Twitter page, School Glow Blog page and School App. As usual there are some wee extras for you to choose from as well.
Daily Challenge – Why don’t you conduct your own science experiment at home with the help of an adult – The Soap and Pepper Experiment https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGaLC4XBGo8&feature=youtu.be It explores surface tension of water and some of water’s unusual properties. I will be doing this today with my family as well. Why don’t you share your results and findings through Teams, the school Twitter page or email your teacher through Glow.
BBC Bitesize Daily Lessons – https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons There are Literacy, Numeracy and Science lessons available to work on today. The Science lesson for Primary 4 looks at the state of matter in relation to water which links very nicely to the Daily Challenge today.
Hopefully you all managed to see our message to you all 🌈🌈Special thanks to our lovely Miss Welsh for coming up with the idea and putting it all together ! 👏👏
Remember to try this week’s Sumdog Challenge to answer 50 questions .⭐ Studyladder also has lots of activities for you to try and tutorials to watch .👍
I hope you got a chance to explore as a marine biologist in the MINECRAFT activity I tagged yesterday – it looked like so much fun. There are lots of activities to explore in the free section of Minecraft Education marketplace…maybe you could try a different one today?
Remember to try 1 or 2 activities from our Home Learning Grid today. Have you managed to take part in a Body Coach Session with Joe Wicks this week?:)
I’m still thinking about those rainbows. If you manage to make a rainbow from painted or coloured stones, remember to take a photograph. When we begin to use our Glow Teams, you could post it for everyone in our class to see. 🙂
Hopefully you have been practising your money skills over the last couple of weeks. I think you will enjoy this little activity on BBC Bitesize. Why not try it today?
Remember if you get your Glow details log into Microsoft Teams and send me a message to let me know how you are getting on. If you can’t access this please email me (see school app) or send something to the school Twitter.

We are almost in the month of May. Can you make a poster about this new month in French, you must include;
the name of the month
the season we are in
some weather phrases associated with this season ☀️⛅🌦
I hope you all enjoy your day, and remember that just one kind word can change someone’s entire day 😊🌈
I was wondering if anyone was spotting lots of birds either in your garden or if you are out for some daily exercise? I have a bird bath in my garden and the birds have really been enjoying it last few weeks. I am not sure if it’s always this busy and I just don’t get the chance to see it when I am at school or if the birds have been extra thirsty and wanting a nice cool bath with the recent nice weather. I also have 3 funny squirrels that visit every day! What bird and animal life can you spot?
Something different for today- a special video message from all the Muir Street Staff:
You should receive details about moving onto Glow Teams in the post this week and we will move onto this next week. We will then be able to chat online at specific times and you can have online chats/conversations with other children in our class. I am really looking forward to hearing how you all are!
A note to parents/carers-
The suggested activities are just that suggestions, participation is at your discretion, complete if you can and find it appropriate to do so. Many of you will have your own work to do at home and it can be difficult to juggle both. Please remember both you and your child’s mental health is most important during this difficult time.
Some suggestions for this coming week:
Please refer to the grid for daily suggestions for Literacy and Numeracy. Other curricular areas can be completed if this works for your family.
Ask an adult or brother or sister to state your phoneme words and write them once without looking at them.
Write a sentence or orally state a sentence containing each of the phoneme words.
Reading Activity
Text/Video– Ice Maker, Ice Breaker
Comprehension- Listen to the video again and also the video in the quiz section and complete the online quiz activities.
Pencil Activity
Can you answer these in sentences, remember to use the question to help you for the answer and include capital letters and full-stops. Remember too your best handwriting. Aim high and give it your best try!
What does water become when it is frozen?
What does the man use to cut the ice block to make the horse’s head?
Why must it be very cold to do the job?
What are the children using to make ice shapes?
Where do they put the water so it turns to ice?
How long does it take the water to turn to ice? A few hours
Art and Design
Use lines to create a patterned back ground. Colour the background if you would like to make your design more attractive. Then using a variety of recycled or new paper create shapes by cutting out to make the body parts for a bird. Glue your bird or birds to your patterned back ground.
Remember if you would like to leave a comment via Twitter, it would be lovely to hear from you! Hopefully soon we’ll be up and running on Glow Teams- look out for your login details arriving in the post this week!
Have a good day and remember these are just suggestions. Keep safe.
I hope you had a lovely day yesterday and made a great start to the week. 🙂
I can see from your logs you have been working really hard on your Studyladder activities…well done! I was especially delighted to see some of you have already started the set reading activities from our Home Learning Grid. I’m so proud of the effort you are making to learn at home boys! Don’t forget to thank your Mum and Dad for their help! 🙂
Remember to try something new from the Home Learning Grid today if you can. 🙂
I noticed so many beautiful rainbows displayed in windows when I was out for a walk last night and it gave me an idea.
I thought it would be nice to make a rainbow using stones which you can find in the garden or when out for a family walk. Paint the stones and make your own rainbow. Put it in the garden for everyone to see. Or maybe use chalk to draw a beautiful rainbow on your garden path. Count how may stones you needed to make your rainbow.
Our ESPRESSO CHALLENGE this week is to learn more about life under the sea. The videos and activities are super and I know you will enjoy them.
I know you love creating and problem solving in your Minecraft game so I know you’ll enjoy this challenge! 🙂
