This week we started reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory. Yesterday we wrote about our dream chocolate bar. Today we made our dream chocolate bar/biscuit, learned how to sketch the BFG and got to try and pin the tail on Miss Trunchbull.

Review of the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006

Ten years ago the Scottish Parliament passed a law to ensure that parents can be fully involved in their children’s schooling.  This was to help parents be involved with their child’s education and learning, feel welcomed to take part in the life of the school, and to be encouraged to express their views, on their school and working together with the school.

—————–This review asks for your opinion on the impact, successes and shortfalls of the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006.  This includes looking at how well schools involve parents in what they do, and finding ideas to develop ways to better involve parents in the life and work of their schools. It is also hoped that it will inspire everyone to look at the most effective way of helping parents support children in Scottish schools.

—————–Today we are launching our Call for Evidence.  A ‘Call for Evidence’ is a way to ask the public what they think,  gather information on what issues exist, and suggest ways of dealing with them.   This call for evidence asks for your views as a parent.  It asks for your opinion on the impact, successes and failings of the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006.  This includes looking at how well schools involve parents in what they do, and finding ideas to develop ways to better involve parents in the life and work of their schools.

—————–All of the information, including a link to the online survey, and downloadable paper copies can be found [ http://www.npfs.org.uk/2016/09/06/parent_call/ ]here.  The survey will close on October 31st.

—————–If you are a member of your school’s parent council, you can find   designated parent council information and survey [ http://www.npfs.org.uk/2016/09/01/parent-councils-we-want-your-views/ ]here .

—————–You can contact the NPFS on 0131 313 8842 or by emailing reviewteam@npfs.org.uk If you would like to return your paper copy to us please send them to Review Team, NPFS,  Rosebery House, 9 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh, EH12 5EZ If you would like help completing the questionnaire please get in touch.

We need your support!

Back in June, we applied for the Tesco Bags of Help grant to receive funding for improving our playground.

We have been successful in reaching the final stage of the scheme, and are guaranteed a grant of £8000.

However, with your support, we could receive £10000 or even … £12000 to spend making our playground fantastic!

Read the information below to find out more, and click on the link to visit the Bags of Help website. http://www.tesco.com/carrier-bags/
Tesco logoTesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative across Scotland. The scheme will see three community groups and projects awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag charge.  greenspace scotland are working with Groundwork to support Scottish communities.

Bags of Help offers community groups and projects in each of Tesco’s regions across the UK a share of revenue generated from the 5p charge levied on single-use carrier bags.

The public will now vote in store from 26 September to 9 October on who should receive the £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 awards. In total, there is over £12.5 million up for grabs.

We will keep you posted on our campaign and how you can help us win the top grant through our blog and twitter feed.

Let’s all work together for Morningside Primary, tell your neighbours and friends and rally up as much support as you can!

Health and wellbeing in p3/2

September 9, 2016 by Mrs Lawrence | 0 comments

Today P3/2 were learning about the difference between feelings and behaviours. First we began by sharing how we were feeling by using our emoji charts that we made last week: IMG_1330 IMG_1331

We discussed and shared what makes us feel excited and how we feel if we do something wrong:Screen Shot 2016-09-09 at 20.23.32

Then we showed off our excited faces/body language followed by angry and disappointed. It was interesting to see all of the different expressions and body language we all used. IMG_1336 IMG_1337 IMG_1335 IMG_1347 IMG_1346 IMG_1351 IMG_1349 IMG_1339 IMG_1338 IMG_1345 IMG_1342 IMG_1343

Next we made up our own plays about making good and bad choices and how our choices effect our feelings

Finally, we shared our ideas about what we can do to make sure we feel happy, proud and confident! These are just some of our ideas:

  • Make good choices.
  • Do good things for people and help them.
  • Do things to make your mum and dad proud.
